After the Swine Flu fiasco under Pres. Ford the pressure was on to take the leadership of the CDC from the Dr's and make it a political appointee. That's what Reagan did and the rest as they say is history. The Dr's that toil in the lab's trying to figure the best defense on a germ are over ruled by a friend or donor to the winning party.
"It's under control", "It will go away when it gets warm".
