Yes, you do. I had issues in my mid 20s that necessitated a colonoscopy, and I've had three total. My first one I was semi-conscious and moving around. The most recent two I've been completely out. Declining anesthesia is silly.
I had issues that required me to have one at 31. I was in a twilight state. They don't use the heaviest anesthesia, but you don't remember anything with the stuff I was given. I had an endoscopy as well. I don't believe this article, nor do I feel it is right to joke about prison rape.
