Cabrera would be doing the team a favor if he retired, now that he's hit his career milestones he's not even an attendance draw anymore.
But hey, I wouldn't walk away from $30 million either.
The Tigers outdraw Cleveland by 5000 fans a game even though Cleveland is fighting for 1st place. Good job giving Chris Illitch your hard earned money for this bad, boring team everybody!
The Tigers are a legacy team in this city. They healed the city in 1968 and gave hope in 1984. Then, you had some damn good teams in 1987, 2006, and 2012. This city loves this franchise because of its historical significance to it. A lot of season ticket holders are corporate guys who often give away their seats to family or friends. So, it sells whether an ass is in the seat or not.

If the Tigers were smart, they’d approach Miggy, ask him to retire but stay on the team to be the hitting coach. Pay him his remaining salary much like the Yankees did with A-Roid when he became a special consultant with the team. Miggy is hobbling currently and his knees are not doing him any favors. Additionally, Miggy doesn’t like being the center of attention so he could transition out of playing easily.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, the opposing team strikes out three times and then scores six runs.
Click this link and then scroll down to "Bottom of the 8th".

It's been that kind of year.
I think they'd/we'd be fortunate to get through September without blowing out another young arm.

I doubt the team would do it without Miggy making the first move, it'd be a PR nightmare. He'll get his "farewell tour" of the league next season.

Interesting stat pointed out in today's Freep:
Saturday 8/20 Freep story wrote:The Tigers (45-76), losers in 21 of 29 games since July 21, recorded their four hits (all singles) in the first, third, fifth and ninth innings. Over that same 29-game span, Tigers starters lead the American League - and rank third in MLB - with a 3.09 ERA.
Oh, what could've been with players who hit their weight.

Yep, I was excited that the Braves picked him up. The bonus of having a left handed bat off the bench with some pop looms large in the playoffs.

The Tigers' player development/ sport science capabilities are pure trash.
Just read Robbie Grossman's recent comments (and look at his outstanding performance at the plate since being traded to the Braves) for proof.
Organizations like the Braves and Dodgers pluck guys off the scrap heap and turn them into useful pieces.
Meanwhile the Tigers pay formerly good players like Javy Baez megabucks and turn them to shit.

The Tigers must go 12-18 or better the rest of the way to avoid a 100 loss season. Good luck to them.

Yikes. Beats 43-119 at least.

It was a big disappointment. They need the following to compete next year: a new GM, a new hitting coach, new pitching coach, new conditioning coach, closer, a good DH bat, a new SS, a new 2B, two new starting pitchers, and a new commentator for radio. Other than that, they are great.

I'd honestly like to see the tigers relocate or become a minor league team.

So tear down Comerica Park and move to the little league field up the street while they are at it?

No, Comerica is fine.
I still love the franchise, unlike Matt who hates America's game altogether.

Untrue, football is great!
