I don't think so...Im pretty sure it was a cover. I was so disgusted, I quickly changed the channel.

I recently heard the godawful old Starship tune "We Built This City" in a spot for a virtual home repair service whose business name escapes me. The lyric was revised to:

"We fixed this toilet,
We fixed this toilet on vi-de-oooo..."
:rollin :barf

(Edit)
Okay, okay, the above is not the original. :rolleyes :razz

There was the old Kinks hit "Tired of Waiting For You" for a speedy pain reliever. Again, the brand escapes me.

I believe they've been using the (Closer To Home) portion of GFR's "I'm Your Captain" in ads for Chevy (trucks?) recently... and it is the original.

Back around 1987 or 1988, I heard the song "Nobody But Me" (Isley Brothers, later done by The Human Beinz in 1968 & George Thorogood Destroyers in 1982) in a Friskies cat commercial!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lji0Kdez_eo

eHarmony used Natalie Cole's "This Will Be" for years. I never saw it again after Natalie's death, though.

Geico used Roy Orbison's "Ride Away" to illustrate "free range chicken" a few years back.

On the topic of bastardized versions of songs for commercials, I will always associate "Do You Believe in Magic" with McDonald's and "Nobody But Me" with Idaho potatoes.
