Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) dies

Unread post by matt1 »

Singer & pianist Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) has died at 77 years old. The albums 1968 "Gris Gris", 1972 "Gumbo", 1973 "In The Right Place" (which has "Right Place, Wrong Time" which went to # 9 in June of 1973 Billboard Hot 100 Charts & his only Top 40 song), 1981 "Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack" & 1989 "In A Sentimental Mood" are all great!!

He was a member of Ringo's All-Starr Band when they played @ The Castle in Charlevoix back in the late 80's. THAT was a GREAT show!

He was hugely responsible in shaping my musical tastes and introducing me to the music of Louisiana, which is now my favorite music of all. I met him years ago at the Ark, one of the most memorable night of my life. This one really hurts.

I saw Mac twice, last time touring with Madeline Preaux. He was not if this earth.
