The songs, both Sylvia's Mother and The Cover Of The Rolling Stone, were actually written by Shel Silverstein. Sylvia's Mother was VERY autobiographical, except Pandolfi didn't fit the lyrics, so it became Avery. I think it captures the true feelings of all three people in such a situation, though some have criticized the melodramatic feel of the song as sung. This link has parts of the song with an actual interview with Mrs. Pandolfi. It's really worth listening to as a reflection of real human emotion and reassurance that your feelings are normal, as they were for Shel, Silvia, and Mrs. Pandolfi.
