Disgusting. This man deserves serious jailtime. Just because there a lot of bad cops out there who use excessive force against citizens doesn't mean that citizens get to target cops.

"A lot"?

Even the California Innocence Project puts the number at at about 1%.

The box that many broadcasters won’t look outside of was made in 1969 and hasn’t changed significantly since.

Yes, "a lot"

Let's look at violent crimes among the population at-large. In 2020, there were 429,470 arrests for violent crimes. There were 258.3 million adults in the US in 2020. The arrest to adult percentage was 0.166%. Assuming the stat you cite, the frequency of excessive force used by law enforcement officers is 6-7 times greater than the arrests for violent crimes among the population as a whole.

Keep two facts in mind as well. This is the number of arrests for the year. An arrest is not a conviction and one person can be arrested multiple times for violent crimes, meaning that the frequency is most likely lower, unless every arrest led to a conviction and every one of the 429,470 was arrested one time.

So, assuming 1% is true, it still is "a lot", especially relatively speaking.

Sure, a cop is more likely to be in a situation where force is needed, but based on the stat you cited, law enforcement officers, the people trusted to maintain public safety, have a rate of excessive force that is 6-7 times greater (or possibly even greater) than citizen arrests for violent crimes.
