No love for the FCC?
No love for the FCC?
Here we are on the FCC's 86th birthday and no well wishes?

Federal Cookie Company?
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: No love for the FCC?
Not happy that Uncle Charlie allowed the TV band to be decimated by the cellphone companies. If they were to give us all nice Channel Master 110" long log periodics and a 40' tower as a part of the deal, then I would have been okay with it, but not happy the TV band is forced to go low band VHF and that they are pushing for a digital AM band- ask Canada how that digital radio band worked for them when there's already 500,000 million AM radios floating around for when the sh*t hits the fan and an EMP or Carrington event destroys everything but tube AM transmitters.

Let's eliminate it and let the fun begin...

I dislike the NAB a lot more than I dislike the FCC.

The USA killed digital terrestrial radio in the US, likely at the behest of existing USA broadcasters who wanted no facility expenses and no new competition.
The US also killed Canada's digital radio ambitions through NAFTA. It basically meant that all new automobiles would have analog-only radios that also lacked AM stereo capabilities, because American broadcasters didn't want AM stations to compete with FM stations and didn't want to buy and maintain AM stereo exciters (especially those with complex arrays, some of which had to be retuned with the change in seasons).
Re: No love for the FCC?
innate-in-you, interesting theories; prevent competition between AM and FM, which is what made radio so good in the 70's. Canada and Australia both embraced AM stereo, and Sony sold their goods there, but you couldn't buy those nice CQUAM tuners here in the USA other than three portables. Interesting. Going all digital on the USA AM band will kill it, not make it thrive when there is only a 25-27% HD radio penetration in the top 5 markets, and Best Buy's HD radio is only FM now. Not very good moves unless their motives include killing AM so that they can sell the tower real estate, rather than service nice big areas with 50KW.
