WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
Time to turn back time. Headed to get the portable SW to tune in WWV.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I do the same thing twice a year, Wife calls me Father Time.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.
Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I use atomic clocks so I don't have to deal with manually changing the clocks.
Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I have some of the digital clocks that pick up WWVB but they have the Michigan DST/EST change over date off somehow. Switch a week later then they should.
My radio room has an old "Nixie tube" clock that I never have to change, it's on UT .
I can hear WWV on 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25.000 MHz depending on time of day here. (and the radio & antenna I use)

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I have three of those clocks. Two of them flipped when they should have. The third one didn't switch until Sunday evening. By Monday afternoon it had flipped back to DST again. I removed the batteries for about 5 minutes. After I reinserted the batteries it corrected about twenty minutes later.

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I use CHU in addition to WWV. Seems CHU comes in clearly when the WWV broadcasts don't, and vice versa.
Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I think the current CHU signal dominance on 3330 kHz has to do with the current propagation conditions and the fact that the transmitter is only 500 miles away, near Ottawa. When the WWV transmitter was in Beltsville, MD, it boomed in, even on crystal radios and low selectivity AM BC TRF receivers when 2500 kHz was in. WWV on 5000 kHz boomed in on most AM SW portables back in the 1960s before they moved to Fort Collins, CO.
BTW, the WWV 2500 kHz IF image is on 1590 kHz on a 455 kHz IF radio. Has anyone ever heard it there? They moved to Fort Collins in 1966, so unless you are closer, I doubt that anyone has.
Have any of you amateurs tried 80 Meters and 160 Meters recently?

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
CHU at 7850 KHZ has been off the air for the past two weeks due to transmitter problems.

What! Justin isn't working on this problem?
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
Probably isn't aware of it. Remind him at your next family gathering.

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
Where did CHU go? Used to be in the 40 meter band, but they moved up in frequency, not the old 7335 KHz anymore? And no backup transmitters? WWV is surprisingly good on 5MHz more so than 10 and 15MHz, occasionally on 2.5MHz, but haven't heard them on 20 or 25MHz in decades.

Re: WWV Time To Turn The Clocks Back
I heard it on 25000 kHz last Summer near the Straits of Mackinac on a Tecsun portable. Called up WWV and talked to one of their engineers, who was from Drummond Island.

"CHU's 10 kW signal has been transmitted on 7.85 MHz since January 1, 2009. Before then, the signal was transmitted on 7.335 MHz, harmonically related to their 14.67 MHz frequency. The frequency change was necessary due to an ITU HF global reallocation at the 2003 World Radio Conference (WRC-03), where the frequency region around 7.3 MHz was turned over to different users."
