Sangean HDR-14
Sangean HDR-14
I have one of these radio’s that was found at my brothers record business that he was trying to sell so I took it to try out ,now apparently this unit is like $100. on the Internet ,the unit looks ok but has a lot of cons #1 The battery door you open it up and the batteries fly out of the unit #2 HD2’s and HD3’s keep cutting out #3 Battery life maybe 15hrs on good alkaline # 4 AM HD only one station actually locks in 24/7 WWJ the rest hang it up they try to lock in and they do for a while but not long that's in daytime in the nighttime skip it ,so all in all if your paying $100.for this thing think twice.I live in the Utica area and reception should not be an issue for this radio maybe it’s the stations or the radio or just the technology itself does anyone else have the HDR-14 please chime in.
Re: Sangean HDR-14
That's disappointing. I own several different Sangean radios and they're all excellent quality.

Re: Sangean HDR-14
Apart from the HD features the radio is good on AM and FM reception ,but not so much on the HD reception it does pull in tons of distant AM signals at night so for DX purposes it’s pretty good.

Re: Sangean HDR-14
I have an HDR-14 and have no problem with strong HD FM signals, with the exception of 106.7 HD-3. I don’t even need to extend the antenna all the way. Sensitive FM, but small speaker.
HD AM is another story. 950 WWJ locks in okay. 1200 WMUZ a little less so. 910 WFDF, 1270 WXYT, and 1340 WCHB have problems and require moving around the radio just right and it still sometimes cuts out. 560 WRDT I could never get to lock on HD. I noticed just now that the HD indicator is gone on 560. It is currently 3:00 PM.

Do you think it’s worth $100.My brother owns a record shop and he received this radio in a box of compact discs and wants to know what a fair price to charge for the unit, I took it home to try it and it works like I had mentioned so I’m thinking around $40.
Re: Sangean HDR-14
Universal Radio has it new for $79.99. $40 sounds fair for a used one.RadioKev wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 4:22 pm Do you think it’s worth $100.My brother owns a record shop and he received this radio in a box of compact discs and wants to know what a fair price to charge for the unit, I took it home to try it and it works like I had mentioned so I’m thinking around $40.
