Re: Owners Of WJBK-TV And The Other Ex-Storer Stations That Was Called SCI Television
Alright, kiddies, let me tell you a story about the little broadcaster that could: SCI Television. It all started once upon a time in the 1920s in Toledo, Ohio.... George B. Storer founded Storer Broadcasting in 1927 initially as a side-business to his then-primary operations: gas stations that were...

Re: CBSDetroit62
They objected to 3.1 or the actual 33.1? They objected to 3.1 and even 3.10 (as the station tried to go by) and told them "you have to use 33.1 since we allocated that to you, even though you broadcast on VHF 3, or you'll have to sign off." and the station signed off the air for a day (i think in p...

Re: CBSDetroit62
well, the FCC got super pissed at WJLP in New York City because they wanted to identify as 3.1 instead of 33.1, as required by the FCC. WFSB in Hartford and KYW in Philly both objected to that number, saying it was too close-spaced to them... and closer to home, WHNE-LD had to apply for a new number...

Re: CBSDetroit62
WADL 38 was interested, but apparently they wanted too much compensation for having to carry the CBS network shows, from what i was told. Their signal is amazing, though. their analog feed had 5 million watts of power and 1 million as a digital station (the highest allowable), so they could cover ev...

Re: CBSDetroit62
CBS never had the best relations with its affiliates and a series of stupid mistakes in the late 1980s caused them to get relegated to nosebleed channel numbers (or risk being shut out entirely) in cities like Detroit, Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Cleveland, when their heritage VHF affiliates decided to ...

Funny you guys mention this. I wrote a long story about this exact topic a few years back for the furry fandom news website Flayrah.com: https://www.flayrah.com/5877/after-these-messages%E2%80%A6-well-be-gone-forever Doug Walker ("The Nostalgia Critic"/"That Guy With the Glasses") even made an hour ...

Re: WMNT-CD repack, with SNAFU!
Not at all! Many television stations broadcast an audio-only subchannel. it's even nicknamed "DTV Radio". Some broadcasters like WGVU in Grand Rapids broadcast a radio station on SAP...

Re: 89X - audio distortion yet again! WTF?!?!
They closed their sales office in Southfield because they got caught by the FCC and CRTC for trying to turn it into a remote studio to broadcast their morning show from Southfield instead of Windsor... the CRTC told them that would be grounds for getting their broadcast license yanked. That's when t...

Re: Predictions on how and when the shutdown ends
Anyone see the irony in that talking to people for this wall, is like talking TO a wall? "Health insurance so people don't go broke from illness? Nope. Wasteful liberal spending!" "A wall that won't help a damn thing? Get me my wallet!" I've noted there's been no call for one across Canada. I wonde...

Re: WADL
They have something like 7 digital subchannels (1 x 1920x1080, 4 x widescreen 480i, 1 x 640x480i and one audio-only at 192 kbps), so naturally, the bitrate's gonna look a bit low at times.. but if they were to adjust the compression and video quality settings on their digital encoder, they might be ...

Re: OTA sports channel
Almost certainly never, since those are part of why cable bills are so high (retransmission fees and agreements with local/regional sports teams.. plus, those big stadiums aren't gonna pay for themselves!)... American Sports Network kinda fizzled out and was re-formed into Stadium (both owned by Sin...

Re: Cool FM 95.1 and 100.7
Like it or not, they can't just shut down 100.7. It intially was an on-channel repeater of 95.1 but moved and both increased power because the CRTC wanted both stations (95.1 and 100.7) to eventually grow into their own stations and boost power a bit more, instead of just one plus a repeater. Aside ...
