Re: Audio Cassette Tapes
Yep, I used to cut out little pieces of thin cardboard and Scotch-tape them over the tab slots. In hindsight the tape alone would have done the trick. I was big on the Memorex 120-min (60 min per side) cassettes way back when. The longer cassettes were cheaper per amount of tape and came in handy fo...

Re: SiriusXM might merge with Liberty Media
The advantage of satellite delivery is that the feed isn't affected by weak cell areas. If you're in a concrete structure like a parking ramp, different story. The main issue with SXM is the inability to cancel or suspend service online without having to call and haggle with the sales rep. Granted y...

Re: Adios Jim Geyer!
I grew up listening to Jim's forecasts on WJR. Had the opportunity to work with him briefly during my summer PA stint at WLNS in 1990. Always gracious, friendly and easygoing. Dude's a class act and will be missed for sure, but hoping he enjoys the retirement he's earned!

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10
Analog VHF stations were given the opportunity to retain UHF channel assignments post-transition or move their digital assignments to the VHF band. A lot of stations chose the latter to save on the power bill (less juice required to cover the same footprint). WOOD moved from RF channel 8 analog to c...

Re: Byron Allen wants to buy ABC O&Os
Hopefully, Nexstar will buy ABC. Considering that Nexstar owns stations affiliated with each of the Big 4, plus The CW and other networks and indies, it would cause a cataclysmic change in television broadcasting, as it would mean loads of stations flipping to ABC, as well as stations being sold of...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10
They figured out what happened relatively quickly. The thing that tripped them up more was how they needed a UHF antenna. I think they connected the rabbit ears to the UHF input. Some days it would come in. Others it would not. That would make sense. Although I likewise remember the switch was heav...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10
I saw my first UHF TV Receiver in the late 1950s in a neighbor's house. I was fascinated by it, and had dreams about tuning in all the UHF Channels. That actually happened during a tropo event 15 or so years later, more or less. There were a few missing channels, but not that many, in the 14-30 ran...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10
It was 1964 when the FCC mandated newly-built sets to contain built-in UHF tuners. Most sets manufactured prior to then didn't have UHF tuners built-in, although many accommodated external tuners that could be purchased separately. The variable slide-tuning knob design displayed channel increments o...

You'll only hear the calls for the TOH ID.

Re: Radio GPT-DOA?
It's the Springfield where the Simpson family resides (drumroll). Can't say as I'm terribly impressed with Radio GPI from the demo I heard. Sure it can do a lot of things. Question is can it do them well? An AI jock might be able to compile and project words, but it doesn't have a human intuition fo...

"keep it on my bathroom. That way I have to get up and walk over to the sink to shut the alarm off" I used to do this, one time in Needles CA I went over to shut the damned thing off without my glasses, I smacked a tarantula. I'm sure that woke you up. :razz Sounds like Hampton Inn's going Vegas. N...

Well I don't drink and the last time I was in Target was probably a year ago, as there are no stores in my general vicinity. I would prefer Meijer anyway given the choice as it's a Michigan-based company, although I do shop at WalMart since it's the big-box store in town and sometimes I just don't w...

Matt, sounds like a big waste of time to me. :razz :lol I have found from experience that using my phone as an alarm clock can be unreliable. Google tends to push Android updates overnight which has prompted the phone to reboot itself on several occasions, disabling the alarm. I picked up an analog...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
I even got into a rather pointless discussion with a young friend who decried the need for cable since "we just stream over wifi". She was not able to understand that her "wifi' got to her home via cable. That's all a bit more confusing now, with T-Mobile's home service, basically a "hot spot" whic...
