Re: Misheard Song Lyrics

Herman's Hermits, "Must To Avoid:"

"She's a must to a boy ..... "

And I remember hearing Dick Biondi on WCFL mention the same incorrect lyric and quote the correct one. So many others no doubt heard the same thing.

"Penny Lane" again:

"A pretty miss is selling poppies from a tray ... " (The correct lyric is "pretty nurse." Paul's mum, Mother Mary, was a nurse.)

Re: Lone Ranger on WXYZ-AM

Without the Wyxie book in front of me: I remember that they moved from the Maccabees Bldg to the big house at Jefferson and Iroquois in 1944. The last Rangers were recorded there (" ... the Lone Ranger comes to you transcribed from Detroit ... ") and the last original show aired in November 1954 ...

Re: Misheard Song Lyrics

From "Penny Lane;"

"And the banker never wears a mask, in the pouring rain . . . " (The correct lyric is "mac," short for "mackinaw," the UK term for a light-weight raincoat.)

Re: CHYR Radio 7 Canada

CHYR / CHIR was at one time owned by Sun Parlour Broadcasting. In the daytime they were very listenable all the way to Port Austin. At night, with Blue Jays games, very DX when I lived in Flint. At pattern / freq adjustment time day to night during Jays games I heard everything that could go wrong ...

Heard as recently as the summer of 2017, on CKNX that had the Blue Jays mid-week day games that CHOK didn't air: the game broadcast joined in progress at approx 12:50 PM after the obituary and funeral notices.

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

I was in Flint yesterday and heard sports talk on 1250, too strong to be any out of town station, no breaks / promos / liners. What station could this be? (Could hear WNEM-AM in Lakeport on a GE SuperRadio II when it was all news, and Ave Maria Radio. Now this freq is quiet in the daytime here.)

Yes. I was about to submit that one. Many misheard lyrics end up sounding just as good as or better than the actual lyrics.

Re: Subpar is the new normal

Listen to radio for more than a day or two. Songs cut off -- not faded to hit a break or network newscast, just bang, gone -- network content upcut by local breaks with too many ads stuffed in them, etc etc ... the same DIY / unfinished chic approach applied to everything else now applied to radio ...

Re: Best Christmas Songs...

"Driving Home For Christmas" by Chris Rea. Never heard it until I started listening to UK classic hits stations. Still have never heard it on a US or Canadian station. I delivered Bill Lamb's mail now and then. There's a mailman in "Little Becky's Christmas Wish," the bringer of bad news that made ...

Re: Best Christmas Songs...

I heard "I'm Gettin Nothin For Christmas" today, on WCXI. They played the Fontane Sisters version. The one I grew up on, that I heard on Dr Demento every year, was by Stan Freberg. Also heard was "Look Around You (It's Christmas Time)" by Bobby Goldsboro, from 1968, that I always liked. "Last ...
