Re: FM power in different areas

When I was a kid I had some books about broadcasting engineering, there were several charts showing signal strength for various distances VS antenna height and power, in the FM band. I converted the data to show how the signal strength varied with distance with low height and high power and vicevers...

Re: Seeking Receiver recommendations

I also have a Tecsun 880 and believe the small size can not accommodate a decent AM ferrite stick antenna ! It is sadly lacking in AM and LW sensitivity. For Short Wave listening , it can make up for the poor AM/LW. You can plug in a coax fed antenna or just a wire of 20+ ft and really pull in some ...

Re: FM power in different areas

Power Answers Most chicago FM transmitting is done from a few buildings a thousand ft tall or more, The FCC has a chart that shows required power Reduction when the antenna is over 500 ft tall for Class B and C stations. This is to Give an equivalent signal level at a certain distance from the tran...

Re: If ATSC 3.0 broadcasts pack 50 radio stations in one TV channel, I’m all ears

FM ;subchannels are bad enough!
So, when driving around Oakland county lake areas, the main FM stereo HD channel just goes mono, but the "subchannels" Just go dead silent if the signal level drops much.
That's VHF and UHF is sure to be worse for loosing signals when moving.

Re: "Solar Max Might Arrive Early"

If solar max will be poor , the next few cycles...I will have to spend my nights on the lower HF bands and sleep all day ! 160, 80 and 60M are not very different when Sol is lazy.

I'll have to try and DX for this. Would be interesting to hear.

I drive a C-MAX and have no problem with AM reception (HD or otherwise)
SO...What's a C-MAX? is it hybrid ?

Re: Traveler information stations on AM 530, 1610, etc

I have seen signs on the roads to bridges etc "for info tune to 16xx " The DTW info radio has moved from 920 to 1610. I heard the 920 signal all the way to my Commerce Twp. location. Marysville had a TIS station 0n 1700 I think, antenna was behind the Public Safety building, always seemed to have di...

Re: Congressman Says Make AM a Mandatory Car Safety Feature

What about the possible shift to DIGI ony AM stations ???, there have been reports of some stations going to DIGITAL modes like HD without any standard AM signal going out. Is this a possible trend for AM MW stations.

Re: WWV / WWVH

Yup, today's the day. I usually check reception of CHU along with WWV and go with the clearer signal. Some days, none of those signals are audible enough to use. In that event, I just use the clock on my cell phone, which is usually spot-on with the SW broadcasts. Ho. I don't think there was EVER a...

They are probably concrete guy wire anchors !!!! I have seen that at a lot of tower sites.
