Jeopardy! Glitch

Unread post by moldyoldie »

I'm sure viewers of last evening's episode of Jeopardy!, at least in the Detroit area, were as perplexed as I was to see an entirely new trio of contestants appear for Double Jeopardy including a new champion, and then the original trio appear for Final Jeopardy! I was saying "What the f--k! Is this a new format?"

Google Gemini's explanation: "Broadcasters or syndication feeds accidentally aired an incorrect segment or mix-up during the broadcast feed."

Anyone here know the real story?

My guess would be channel 4's automation system screwed up.

WDIV's explanation from a Jeopardy! fan website:
The technicality behind the issue is extremely detailed, but in short, the company we work with that provides the on-air feed of programming that’s not originated live from our station made a massive error when programming the segments for Jeopardy!. The wrong show was programmed. The error was noticed before the broadcast began but was not corrected in time to air all of the appropriate segments associated with last night’s premiere. Therefore, what you saw was the first two segments of the premiere, then the wrong Double Jeopardy! segment from the wrongly scheduled episode, followed by the appropriate Final Jeopardy!. We apologize for this error and want to assure you that repercussions for this mistake are occurring. Also, we plan to air last night’s episode in full at 2:00am on Wednesday morning. We understand it is an unfortunate time, but due to other scheduled programs it is the earliest we could broadcast the episode. Again, thank you for reaching out to us following this error. Appropriate actions are taking place to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

I wonder how much of that explanation is truthful?

Is this just an issue with WDIV? WTOL 11 Toledo had no such issues. Are there other stations airing Jeopardy in the wrong order, or, the wrong episodes?

How many years has WDIV had issues airing Jeopardy! incorrectly? I know whenever they bump episodes to MeTV, there are always bugs. WTOL has always aired episodes correctly, so who knows what source is actually causing these issues?
