Spring 2026 'conditions'

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Last night (9:00PM) here in Central Windsor, I was getting tons of stations in.
Most notable were 92.7 CJBX, 101.3 CKOT, 95.9 CFPL over local CJWF (had to play with the antenna but it was there) 103.1 CFHK, and 103.9 CKDK was poking in over local 103.9. Even CHST 102.3 was eating away at local CINA.

104.9 Rocket 105, 103.7 WRTS, 99.9 was a mix of Classy 100, and CFGX Sarnia.
The most impressive was WDCX 99.5 over WYCD!

Looking forward to see what this evening brings.

Quick question, are there websites anyone can share for DX map forecasts and perhaps groups to share info with without using Facebook?

Thanks.

William Hepburn still has the tropospheric (DX) forecasts on his website. I think he is based out of Hamilton, Ontario

A very weak KEB98 Buffalo was cutting into KEC63 in northern Downriver. New catch for me, as KEC63 has been up to this point the only thing I've ever received on 162.55 MHz

EDIT 5/26/26 10:21 PM: Just heard a very weak WWG-53 Parker, PA (new catch) cutting into a very weak WNG-735 New Philadelphia, OH on 162.425

EDIT 5/27/27 12:48 AM: NEW CATCH! Very weak KEC-58 Erie, PA cutting into usual KHB-97 Bellevue/Sandusky, OH

Within the last hour got a true tropo catch in the car. A new record for me by far. Had 90.3 WHPC in full HD for a few seconds near Leonard (I knew it was the station since the callsign and song info appeared on screen, and the HD indicator was on)

WHPC is licensed to Garden City, NY.

Not even an hour later getting WMAV FM, Oxford, Mississippi on 90.3 clashing with KDTI. Mostly was just the RDS feed over KDTI audio but sometimes the audio flipped. Also had likely WCLV analog blending in as there was classical music blurting in as well.

90.3 is a gold mine tonight of catches, there's unusual stations popping up all over the dial though.

Edit: will add that the HD on WMAV locked in for about a half second, but then it dropped and only showed the text/RDS. I did hear a few other blurts of words/music for split seconds including "Mississippi" being said so I knew it was FAR the station I was picking up.

I love getting to drop this video in these threads.

July, 2010. Clinton River and Schoenherr in Sterling Heights. I was jumping in the shower and heard interference on 89x. Grabbed my Blackberry and started filming. This is the best catch I ever had, given that I was getting the HD lock.

When living in Ann Arbor in 1992, I bumped my clock radio from FM, WLLZ to the AM and picked up WWL New Orleans crystal clear.

Speaking of WLLZ, I could swear they were playing "Black Velvet" by Allanah Myles in 1990. Am I rememberinf wrong? I could swear they played it. Rock radio was looking for anything with a bluesy sound in 1990. Do you remember it on Wheels?

Tonight getting WBCT and WRCL on 93.7 clashing,

Edit: by 7:45 it is back on now. See below:

On a engineering/technical side (2 sided in itself) CHYR 96.7 appears to be completely off the air currently as of 7:30 tonight, probably due to storms earlier, getting W244DL in the Rochester area choppy but there nonetheless. Crawford has changed the translator to relay WMUZ AM 1200 now, not WCHB anymore. Appears the last FCC update was in March so maybe that's when it happened. I heard a station ID for WMUZ 1200 and once home checked for maybe a construction permit that they relocated the translator and/or boosted the power, but nothing changed, because in normal scenarios CHYR is absolutely annihilating this translator and right now the translator is unchanged and temporarily ruling 96.7 in SE Michigan.

I just like KC (Ken Calvert) and listened to the AAA station. I didn't like WLLZ music.

Today took a heat wave road trip to Mt.Pleasant and back. Got 3 more catches, 2 more FAR away like Monday's

On I-475 north of Flint near Mt. Morris- on 88.1 had 2 catches, all with a super fuzzy Smile FM signal, had WELH Providence Rhode Island (analog only) coming in alongside a HD radio signal, it had 3 digital channels (HD1-2-3) but the callsign on the HD is not configured right as it only said "HD" for the callsign and then HD1 of 3 ("HD- HD1 of 3") but it was NPR and had Classical 24 as one of the subchannels and after doing some research determined it was WYPR Baltimore Maryland. I first thought it was WVPE Elkhart Indiana but the HD subchannels did not match (hence the programming of the callsign on the digital signal to other than "HD" would be helpful) but WYPR matched on the subchannels.

Next, on US-10 near Coleman, had WIAA on and WEER Montauk New York was chopping in (only identifier was Top of Hour ID)

Another decent catch day. Maybe need to stake out a rural DX spot

Big time e-skip today!

Houston Public Radio on 88.7 was battling 89X in the car earlier this afternoon. RDS for Houston Public Radio appeared on my infotainment screen.

Another rock station on 101.1 for a few seconds overrode WRIF! My initial instinct was WJRR from Orlando, but based on some of your catches, it seems 101 WGIR-FM from Manchester, NH is a distinct possibility.
