Alpha Media has been sold!

The same guy who tried to do a hostile takeover of Cumulus a few years ago, Jeff Warsaw, is purchasing Alpha Media.

Hopefully, he doesn't overpay or over-lever Alpha Media's balance sheet.

It will be interesting to see if there will be any changes format wise to the Saginaw cluster with this purchase.

While the Moose and WSGW AM/FM are the primary moneymakers for the cluster, Kiss 107 and especially 106.3 the Core are questionable at best

Flip the Core or some other format to 100.5, maybe even sell it to cut costs for the lease with Delta and to free cash for some sorely needed digital consoles at Radio Centre.

Kiss 107.1 isn’t going anywhere. It’s been the primary urban station in this area for decades.
Powerhouse signal Moose 94.5 isn’t going anywhere.
106.3 The Core actually has less wattage than WSGW 100.5 FM.

If there’s a signal issue for 100.5, they need to petition the FCC to move that signal to one of their other towers. I can’t see them selling a signal but, then again, I never saw them becoming The Core

Compare coverage maps and you will see that 106.3 actually has greater coverage of key cities than 100.5.

107.1 penetrates Flint better than 106.3 does, from my experience. It used to do respectably in the Flint ratings back in the W-3-Soul era, before WDZZ came along.
Speaking of which, I would agree Kiss is probably safe.

WGER's coverage in Genesee County is also hampered by a K-Love drone at 106.3 in Linden.

WSNL's translator at 106.5 MHz makes reception of WGER difficult in the Flint area.

106.3 The Core is ruined by the lengthy stop sets.

That's true too, almost forgot about 106.5. And that translator really gets out too.
WGER didn't have great coverage in Flint even before those two translators came on. WIOG was a non-factor in Flint before it moved to 102.5, even while it ruled Saginaw. Hard to believe there was a time when 106.3 was the #1 station in the Tri-Cities market... I'm looking at old ratings and "Hits 106" had a 16.6 12+ in the fall of 1984. In Flint, they had a .3.
