The clowns on channel 7 last evening had an over the top enthusiastic reaction to the new signage. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear their on-air talent works for the Mayor's office!

Kudos to the Detroit Free Press for offering an objective report on the matter, unlike channel 7's garbage reporting.

The teal color is present throughout the city on official vehicles, the buses, the spirit of Detroit.. so that’s why it was chosen. It is also on Billboards… it’s the official promotional color. As to the spacing… they were going for a knockoff of the Hollywood sign. Much landscaping work has been done on 94 for the draft because they expect people will fly in and go down 94 to downtown. If they are smart the random patches of Daffodils that have planted themselves along the freeway will not be mowed down until later. They chew them up annually before they are done blooming for some stupid reason. They went to the trouble of starting an express bus from the Airport to downtown on a 1 year trial just to accommodate the crowds.

The matrice and the pedestal are horrible. This seems like it was designed for larger letters.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's graffiti on it by this time tomorrow. They've done it to bridges mere hours after they are replaced.

They do pretty good painting them over on the core freeways… you can bet that sign will be watched like a hawk.

What are the odds at least three of the letters show up at a scrapyard by month end?

The cops had to shoo passers by away who were stopping on the shoulder of 94 and walking all over the landscaping last night.

Signs like this aren't uncommon. Cleveland has one. Even Guam does. In these cases however it's not on a busy freeway.
