How did they come up with 600 watts? Assuming they are at full efficiency, the most they could input would be 541 watts. They are a 500 watt station.

Coming to an FM translator? EMF has a bunch of redundant translators in the Lansing area

When the window opened a few years ago for AMs to request FM translators, WVFN had a permit for 102.3 and WJIM had one for 107.7. Somehow, the 102.3 frequency ended up in WKAR's hands, and the 107.7 permit disappeared when WJIM settled for the crappy 106.9 signal.

My uneducated guesses:
-An FM translator somewhere on the dial
-Juggling the schedule to allow a show for Fred Heumann (or adding Fred to an existing show).

It's the WKAR translator's third frequency. It started out on 94.5 and that was incredibly short-spaced to WCEN and WKLQ (which are also short-spaced to each other)

During my days at WFMK long ago, AM 730 was largely irrelevant. It was basically there for the poor sap still driving an old Buick Skylark, with an AM only radio. Danny Stewart could say "The New 95 FM, and 73 AM!" with great enthusiasm. Goodrich even printed separate "73 AM" bumper stickers, for the poor kid in the rusty Skylark. Gotta give Bob G credit for that.

I remember sitting with my Dad waiting for my Mom circa 1963 in Genesee County, in the Daytime, and listening to WGN 720 on our last extremely sensitive vacuum tube Delco radio in our 1961 Olds 88. No WVIC 730 as it hadn't signed on, and no CJSP/CHYR 710 to speak of, as it was just 1 kW at that time. WGN was much more difficult to hear Days after 0.5 kW WVIC 730 signed on, and CHYR increased to 10 kW a couple of years later. Seems like WGN 720 objected to WVIC 730 interference, and had to modify the proposed pattern before they could sign on. Seems like WMAQ 670 did ground wave measurements to prevent WMIC 660 from being nondirectional during non critical hours. I think they had to be directional to protect WNNNNNNNBC during CH anyway. Not sure if WCFL 1000 objected to WITL 1010, which was directed West toward them. All I know is that WCFL was much stronger than WITL in Genesee County due to the DA protecting CFRB 1010, which is considered to be a Class I-B/Class A.
