Wow... WUOM 91.7fm showed up. Q105 is barley at a 2 share, That station SUCKS ASS!!.

The last period for 106.5 being a sports station was about the same as what the last period for the zone was, a 0.8. Hell, 106.5 being off the air for the last 5 weeks would probably get the same ratings.

More people listen to Michigan Radio over WCWA. Even WJR gets better rankings.

95.7 probably gets a good share. Not sure about 97.3 or the Wolf or even 107.3 the Juice.

My guess is 95.7 is around a 5 share, The Wolf is probably around a 3 share, 97.3 is probably around a 3 share, and The Juice is probably around a 2 share.

As late as 1977, two Detroit AM stations - WJR and CKLW - accounted for regularly 15-20% of radio listening in the Toledo market. In Spring '77, WJR's 7.0 was good for 8th place in the market, and CKLW's 8.4 was good for third (vs. a 7.3 for WOHO and behind only WSPD and WLQR 12+). That was down from a 14.6 for the Big 8 in Spring '75 and an 8.1 for WJR in Fall '75. I imagine the numbers were substantially higher in the days before FM became a thing.

The top 5 stations in Toledo in Spring '77 were: WSPD, WLQR, CKLW, WTOD, and a two-way tie for fourth with WCWA and WOHO.

If I had to guess I'd assume the listing of WJR was an error as opposed to the station actually subscribing to be listed in Toledo ratings. I find it hard to believe WJR cares a thing about Toledo these days. They had a real regional emphasis when they were a full-service station, back in the days when a 50,000-watt clear-channel signal was still something stations actively promoted.

Great results for both 104.7 WIOT and 94.5 XKR.

Too bad we cannot see the AQH share of 107.7 The Wolf, Hot 97.3 or Mix 95.7.

Looks like nearly everyone in Toledo stopped listening to WJR ages ago. Twenty years ago, WJR used to be good for a 3 share.

I can remember when WJR had an advertising sales office (On Lewis Ave, about a mile north of the state line). Their biggest advertiser was Whitman Ford, also on Lewis.

They had a jingle that used the theme from "Car 54, Where Are You?"

Both businesses are gone now.

WLQR was the only FM in the top 5 bunch in '77. It's amazing what WTOD could do as a DAYTIMER only. It would be another 3-4 years before they realized a modified WTOD translated to 99.9FM would become their country goldmine for two decades.

I worked at WTOD and remember the audience loved the traditional country we played and the many,many contests we played with them. Some were corny, but the listeners sure enjoyed them. One in particular was 'Turkey Shoot' at Thanksgiving time. I'll take the 15th caller at 240-0000,and that phone was lit up instantly. Yes, for a 'daytimer only', WTOD did pretty good for many years. Dennis, you've got to tell us your WJYM (AM730) stories back in the day. Were you at the studio on Route 20 in Perrysburg Township, or in Bowling Green?

I started there in July 1974 and was there when Swaggart bought it in 1976. But in 74 it was King Country WMGS. And yes,it was still in the abandon train station in the field on Rt 20. I would be writing all day if I told the stories about working there, but most of all, it was much fun for me as I was only 21, and that place was my break into radio. Just thinking about it today makes me yearn to go back and do it all again!

Hey WOHO, heres a funny , and true story from my WMGS days. The station was in the middle of a big field that was next to a fenced area that had many grazing cattle. One day, while Im on the air, part of the fence broke and a cow got loose. And I had the stations back door open because it was a hot summer day. While I am actively on the air, I look through the big window at the transmitter equipment, and there stands a cow. I was all alone that day, and I remember keeping my show going, cueing records,announcing, etc, and spending about 15 minutes coaxing that cow back out the door. Nothing got damaged or broken, and I was successful getting the cow out, AND keeping my show going. Wonder how many dj,s have ever had that happen to them?
