That would likely be WHSR licensed to Owosso which is a Strong Tower radio affiliate you were recieving. I once tuned to 88.7 in Flint on I-475 and my radio going through downtown Flint was flipping back and forth between 89X and WHSR quite rapidly. Solid WHSR on I-75 north of I-475

I listened to WHSR a couple times and the audio quality is cringeable at best. Very heavy digital compression especially if they play music. I'm sure they have probably lost a listener or two just because it sounds bad

Yes, lots of picket fencing. The low end of the dial is jammed up anywhere you go. Even in Saline I have issues with the signal. It sucks; it didn't used to be like that.

You ain't missing much, unless you like coffee shop music masquerading as "alternative."

This iteration of 89X has proven very disappointing.

The first few weeks were the best; it's been downhill since then.

Reception still sounded like trash in the Brighton and Howell areas when passing through during the weekend thanks to interference from Owosso. It does clear up quickly east of the 96 / 23 junction.

In Fowlerville, WUPS from Houghton Lake was booming in midday on Saturday, and when I channel surfed about 45 minutes later in Ionia County, WUPS was still dominant on 98.5 over WNWN.

I wish 89X would stop playing Noah Kahan, Matt Maeson, Myles Smith and other coffee shop crap.

The River in its final years was playing Pink, Bruno Mars and Shawn Mendes. 89X hasn't gotten THAT bad...yet.
Looking at their playlist, though, I'm not noticing much stuff not also being played on 107One in Ann Arbor, except for a few token harder titles.
