I doubt he'll pitch more than five or six innings per start, if that much. The man's a physical horse with perfect pitching mechanics so I also doubt "his arm falls off". He pitched well toward the end of last season.

That looks like it will definitely happen, and the Tigers didn't have to pay him $32 million for several years to make it happen.

I'd guess that Troy Melton will spend most of the year at Toledo, as a full-time starter, as part of the preparations for 2027, the beginning of the post-Skubal era.

Apparently $11 million of his $13 million salary is deferred beginning in 2030.

The hitting upgrade will probably happen at the trade deadline, when Harris will see exactly what they have this year, and start unloading young players.

Just found out Reese Olson had right shoulder surgery and is done for the year. Both he and Jackson Jobe are on the 60-day IL.
No wonder we pulled the trigger on Verlander.

Jobe could be back for the stretch run, but even so, I’m not counting on anything meaningful this season. First year back from Tommy John is always a crapshoot.

I’m not convinced bringing Verlander in is the best move, but with Olson out I see why they did it. It’s better than the Alex Cobb signing last season! Drew Anderson pitches out of the pen, while Melton and likely Montero anchor the rotation in Toledo.

The only offensive signings, other than bringing back Torres, are inviting fringe guys to Spring Training. At least one of Max Anderson, Kevin McGonigle, Hao-Yu Lee, and Jace Jung better step up. If Baez who faltered badly in the second half and/or McKinstry are everyday players, the offense will be streaky again. If Trey Sweeney is manning short most days, even worse.
