Ok, I stand corrected. I have to be honest, I don't listen to Alt 98.7 a ton.

And yet I'm excited about this. Weird and hypocritical? Maybe. Lol I guess they got me with the nostalgia factor.

I do listen to alt regularly - and that tinny sounding processor that they use (the same one employed at WCSX, WRIF, WIOT and so many other stations) coupled with the playlist makes it really hard to digest for me.

Audio quality on CIMX sounds like it hasn't changed since 1995, and it was great then

As far as not representing or mentioning detroit much? great!! good for them! maybe it works out as kind of a gimmick (we completely ignore you, you love us kind of thing)

Some early branding: "Another 89X original" is what plays before classic 80s "alternative" ie Depeche Mode, The Cure

They have their system for soliciting sound bites from the public, "Citizen X," the talkback mic on the iHeart app. They will undoubtedly use these clips for a while in lieu of DJs.

There's packages for just about anything you want in radio. JAMS packages are H***. You can get almost any sound effect you want.

You can also pull it offline, of course, but yes, there are libraries that have all those sound effects.

Lets not forget how incredibly easy it is to create bumpers and announcements using AI. I may or may not know someone who's done it.

WRIF has definitely upped their quotient of 90s and 00s titles never previously heard on that station. What does this do to Riff? Same, in a lesser way with WLLZ, and even less to WCSX. Now they have a place to get all their gold titles without sitting through Led Zeppelin and Journey and Poison.

What WRIF passes as contemporary rock sucks ass anyway.

The first thing WCSX needs to do is stop playing marginal 90's crap like "I Alone" by Live, and go a little deeper into the legitimate Classic Rock vault, much like WOFX Cincinnati. It's sad that markets like Dayton and Cincinnati have better music on over the air radio than Detroit. I guarantee, there will probably come a moment when 3 or 4 of these stations are playing the same song all at the same time. It's happened before.

Lame.

If WCSX wants to play 90's tunes, there's plenty to choose from by true Classic Rock artists.

I have been out of radio for a decade. I have no idea about any AI usage. But it doesn't surprise me.

They're just moving with the demo. It was around Nirvana when suddenly you didn't hear the new releases from classic artists as often. In the end, who cares. I have some form of it on 88.7, 98.7 and 101.1 again.

A nice mix of Lithium and Turbo would be perfect.

You are right regarding WCSX and WOFX in Cincinnati.

Dayton radio sucks big time, though. 94.5/97.7 the Oasis is the only bright spot.

Just heard a liner that said "no songs about beer, trucks and faceless women doing things, we're not a country station anymore" and heard several that said, "Get Back with your X, 89X".

I've been listening non stop and it's sounds great. I hope Bell can pull this off.

Regarding Alt 98.7, they cater more to Detroit while the new 89X caters to Detroit. My guess is 98.7 stays alternative for the foreseeable future, but unless 89X blasts off in the ratings quickly, then maybe a WWJ simulcast is in the cards.
