What we needed was Jahmai Jones to pinch hit against that tough lefty reliever and hit the winning two-run homer...like he just did for the Red Sox! :razz :lol

Torres is back, Valencia optioned to Toledo. A little surprised it wasn't Lee so he can play everyday.

Cubs just activated Taillon to start tonight.

...and he was greeted back with four Tigers runs including dingers by Greene and Dingler in the top of the first!!

With the wind blowing out at Wrigley it could be "one of those nights".

(Edit 11:38pm EDT)
How Jansen wormed his way out of the ninth is nothing short of a miracle. Going into extra innings! All TEN RUNS to this point are via home run.

I don't believe it - Tork came through with a clutch two-run single in the tenth, albeit with a drawn-in infield.
Tigers win it in ten, 8-6. :smokin Also, Cubs use eight pitchers, Tigers six.

Gawd! :barf Does Valdez have any semblance of a fastball?

Currently 9-0 Cubs after five.

I have zero confidence that Valdez will make it to the end of the season.

His arm is past the expiration date.

When your team used six pitchers the night before and you can't even make it out of the first inning..... :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

The bullpen is also spent after this game. McKinstry and Rogers both pitched. Dingler hit a two run homer to make it 11-2.

Madden (who was called up when Flaherty went on the DL) or Hanifee could get sent down for a fresh arm. The former didn’t exactly pitch economically but he only gave up a run.

If Torres wasn’t a statue at second Valdez’s line may not have looked so awful. Then again, he could have continued to not throw quality strikes and be very hittable.

Montero starts tonight.

Giving Valdez a partial pass for last night as he just returned from his grandmothers funeral. She apparently had raised him. I really don’t think his mind and head was on the game. It’s too bad that they couldn’t have adjusted the rotation

Ditto...but only a "partial" pass.

The mood swings provoked by the Tigers over the last 48 hours remind me of this famous saying.

Last night showed why Montero should have never been removed from the rotation.

He's proven to be just as effective in late long relief, considering our starters only go a limited maximum of pitches/innings. I think it's obvious our short relievers can't always be trusted to hold a lead, and with Vest probably out for the season....
