Hard hitting new law

Unread post by TC Talks »

I wonder how this situation came to be. There's big things this state need to address, like foster care neglect and child abuse, and we just went after this?

I guess we are going to need to just jerk off the old fashioned way...

Why not? I get to watch Donald Trump fuck 330 million people every day. What difference does this make?

They just dig further underground. You don’t really stop them… just weed out as many as you can to minimize the damage.

It makes it punishable by law. Before this law, they could photoshop a real face and animate a child online. Imagine you have a niece or nephew or friend’s daughter, and their face gets plastered on this disgusting material. I have a friend’s kid who had this happen to his 8 year old daughter. :x >:

That's horrible, want to know something worse? Losing children in the foster care system, and repeated child abuse by addicted parents. It takes 3 calls to Child Protective Services before they respond.

All of these are bad things, but what should be the priority?

We can walk and chew gum at the same time. This sounds like the MAGA argument of “We need to help vets instead of immigrants claiming asylum.” We CAN do both.

As a state, we have demonstrated we lack the will, and the resources. So we CAN do everything, we aren't.

I normally agree with you on your writings and political views but not on this.

As someone who has worked for the State of Michigan DHHS doing foster care, juvenile justice and mainly CPS for over 28 years, I will tell you your statement is 100% incorrect. It doesn’t take 3 calls for a response - and local offices don’t even make the decision whether we investigate, Centralized Intake does. If there are allegations involving a parent’s drug use affecting their caretaking of a child, it’s investigated. We further don’t “lose” kids in the foster care system as my kids saw me at least once a month if not more. They knew my name and enjoyed seeing me.

I’m just more than a little sensitive when it comes to this subject, as it’s a thankless, stressful, high burnout job with lots of turnover as many people can’t cut it. The biggest 13 counties consistently have openings and are not fully staffed due to this. The media too often reports an incomplete story on what we do and the above statement doesn’t help

Your claims are absolute bullshit.

I have a dozen teachers in Traverse City who not only disagree with you, but are working on a lawsuit against the state (along with teachers across Michigan) for failing to respond to dangerous situations when reported to CPS. Children burned, blatant signs of sexual abuse, neglect and emotional harm. One in three calls even gets a return call from CPS. My experience with APS is similar.

As for Foster Care; defend this:
Widespread Failures Plague Michigan Child Welfare System, New Independent Report Shows

DETROIT, MI — A court-ordered analysis of the cases of 460 abused and neglected children in the custody of Michigan’s Department of Human Services (DHS), released today, confirms allegations made by Children’s Rights in a federal class action accusing DHS of systemwide failure to provide children with stable foster care placements, vital services, and adequate protection from further maltreatment.

Issued by the independent nonprofit Children’s Research Center, the report cites serious problems with the agency’s planning for the needs of the children in its care, resulting in significant numbers of children being bounced from one unstable foster placement to another and languishing for unacceptably long periods in the child welfare system. According to the report, DHS also fails to ensure the safety of children placed with relatives, does not provide adequate health services to children in state custody, and exceeds the national norm for maltreatment of children in custody by 150 percent.

The Children’s Research Center was appointed by U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds to conduct the case record review in the federal class action, brought against Michigan by the national child welfare watchdog group Children’s Rights, the international firm McDermott Will & Emery, and local counsel Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton. Known as Dwayne B. v. Granholm, the lawsuit charges the state with violating the constitutional rights of the approximately 19,000 children in its custody by failing to protect their safety and well-being and find them permanent homes.

“This report gives us a comprehensive, objective view of a system that has utterly failed to protect the children in its custody,” said Sara Bartosz, senior staff attorney for Children’s Rights. “We hope that it serves as a wake-up call toDHS that it is time to stop trying to paper over its problems and start making real improvements for the children whose constitutional rights it is trampling every day.”
Do you know how many DHHS agent positions are currently unfilled? Do some homework.

I’m rather surprised you’re not excited that this got passed. It’s right in your wheelhouse of social justice and defending women and whatever… besides if it isn’t much of a problem then very little time will be diverted from your stated pet projects.
