You’d have two extremely established machines endlessly tearing you apart is the trouble.
You are now describing a current situation - Z Mamdani ( M A M D A N I ) did something no Democrat or GOPer have done in recent times - got younger people out to vote! And while you can demonize him (and his stated and implied positions and policies) he won that election on one thing - making life more affordable.
Two corrections. First, the correct word is "criticize" not "demonize." Second, there were two reasons he won. You are correct on the first. But the second is that his competition was damaged goods.
The correct word is criticize in a sane world. He’s absolutely being demonized as so bad Trump is threatening a takeover of the city should he win. That kind of threatening posturing is meant to paint him as some impossible DEMON who must be stopped at all costs because he is just that evil not someone to be merely disagreed with.
Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

That sounds more like the rhetoric from many aimed at Trump just before he won the second time around. You know, people claiming he was a fascist and the next coming of Hitler.

Except that what’s happening now IS textbook fascism.

More corrections - NY Times 7/7 - “If he’s the cure to what ails the party,” Mr. (David) Paterson (former D Gov of NY) said, “then cyanide is the cure for a headache.” The Guardian June 26 - (What are Republicans saying about Mamdani) "“Hamas terrorist sympathizer”, “jihadist terrorist”, calls for deportation and predictions of another 9/11 " Sounds like demonization on both sides to me. Your milage may vary.

And you are wrong secondly. Mamdani won on turnout. 2021 Dem Mayor Primary - total turnout 801,829
2021 General Election - total turnout 1,149,172.
2025 Dem Primary - turnout 1,061,257.

Was is the "damaged goods" candidate who caused an explosion in overall voter turnout? I think not.

Ummmm....I'm pretty sure we don't have a centralized, autocratic government in this country. Republicans hold majorities, but Constitutionally created balances of power still exist.

They are using other portions of the playbook.

But it seems to me that two of the three co-equal branches of your government have rolled over and ceded their power to the executive branch.

That’s precisely what happened in Germany in the 30’s.

Pardon me for harping on you today, but your head is so deeply up your ass on this election I'm actually performing a life saving procedure.

If Cuomo was so damaged why did he get more primary votes in 2025 than Adams, the GE winner, did in 2021?

Adams, 2021 - First round, 289,403. Final round - 404,513
Cuomo, 2025 - First round - 384,919. Final round - 440,655

While NY voters IN NO WAY compare to voters in other areas.. this is kinda the canary in the coal mine for Dems nationwide.

Mamdani did what Trump did - find easy issues to understand and connect with - "Get boys out of girls sports" - "Get prices lower"
and pound them all during the campaign. Being against Trump is not enough. Gotta be FOR something. Something that connects.. like Halalflation.

Me personally. Any credibility that New York voter had was lost when they elected a carpetbagger to the US Senate.
What other state in the country would of done that? Be honest.
Using polls from the Empire state as any sort of accurate barometer is folly to me.

What do you call federal troops detaining US Congressmen for protesting? Or is your "News" source not admitting that this is happening...

Most people in Manhattan are elated with their candidate. Staton Island and the Bronx? Not so much.

Adams IS running so let's see how he does.

(Today)
A sprawling coalition of law enforcement unions will endorse Eric Adams’ campaign this week — in what is a major win in the early days of the mayor’s independent re-election bid, The Post has learned.

The newly formed slate dubbed NYC Uniformed Forces Coalition 2025 includes nearly all the city police, corrections and sanitation unions — and will formally back Hizzoner’s re-election run on Thursday on the steps of City Hall, according to sources

Why start another '3rd party' when you can support a party that currently exists. The current 'Labor' Party, the Communist Party, the Socialist Workers Party, and a few others are just left-wing offshoots of the 'original' Communist party. The Libertarian Party is the only sort-of middle-of-the-road party that somebody might support.
