T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Unread post by Calvert DeForest »

I made the switch to T-Mobile's 5G home internet service a few weeks ago and am so far quite pleased. We had DSL service through a local company for nearly 18 years. Loved the fact that our rate never increased in that time and their customer service is second to none. Only problem is that their fiber stops less than six blocks from our house leaving us with 20 MB max down speed on DSL. Been inquiring about any plans to expand fiber this way for over a year but our neighborhood just isn't on their radar right now. The only other option for fiber was Spectrum and I won't go with that company (long story). Discovered that T-Mobile finally had 5G internet out our way and decided to give it a try. Hated to cancel our current provider but we just need more bandwidth for what we do. So far T-Mobile has been stable and considerably faster than our DSL, up to 30X speed over what we had. The price is only $20/month more that what we were paying, which is worth it for what we get.

Anyone else here have T-Mobile home service? Thoughts?

You sound exactly like the situation we were in. Had AT&T DSL for the longest time (only other high speed choice was Charter / Spectrum and we hate them). Verizon offered 5G internet in our area for less money. We went with it and it’s faster. We are very satisfied with it. Ironically AT&T offered the same thing a couple of months after we switched - no thanks.

Definitely helps if you live in an area where cell tower traffic is less congested.

Only issue I've heard of w/T-Mobile 5G is some corporate VPN connections fail to work, due to a double-private NATing "issue" that T-Mobile uses on their backbone for routing. Otherwise, I have several friends that claim it to be rock solid.
