Bobbert wrote: Sun Jan 19, 2025 10:58 am On what would have been Ron's 80th birthday, here are parodies of the theme songs of the Paul Henning trilogy of rural TV comedy shows from the 1960s.

(Beverly Hillbillies)

Come and listen to a story
'Bout a man named Ron
A poor Detroit boy,
Had some trouble gettin' on.
And then one day
While he's watchin' a ballgame,
A thought came to mind that would lead to greater fame.

Talk that is, TV, radio.

Well the first thing you know
Ol' Ron's a talk show host
A love for sports, he's said to have the most
Said, "Thinkin' big is the way I outta be,"
So he loaded up his notes
And he moved to 'XYZ.

Big audience, good time slot, lots of calls.

************

Well now it's time to say goodbye
To Ron and all his crew,
Ron hopes you didn't wish
That you had something else to do,
You're all invited back next week to this place on the dial
To have a heapin' helpin' of Ron's unique broadcast style.

Cameron that is, sit a spell, turn your mind off.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?

(Petticoat Junction)

Come listen to a show
That is hosted by a man
Named Ron Cameron

Forget The Ticket
It is time to relax
With Ron Cameron

Lots of ads, you bet!
Even more, than you'd expect
With Ron Cameron

(Listen to Cameron!)

There's a little station
With a weak signal
For Ron Cameron

(Listen to Cameron!)

It is run cheaply
Making dough from folks
Like Ron Cameron

(Listen to Cameron!)

And that's caller Kurt
He's got something more to blurt
To Ron Cameron

Listen to Cameron!

(Green Acres)*

Ron Cameron is the host for me,
Sports talkin' with some comedy,
Ads spreadin' out so far and wide,
Keep The Ticket,
Just give me some R Sizzle.

Elsewhere is where Ron'd rather be,
He gets so restless naturally,
He always gets dissatisfied,
The grass is greener
At someplace besides right here

Ron wants...
...Restaurant.
But wait...
...Not yet.

This is Ron's life
Of turmoil and strife,
Ron Cameron he is here.
Great salute to CBS's "rural" comedies, Bobbert!
Thanks. The folksy tone of Ron's show helped me do this one.

In the pre game show on 97.1 last night as the wings playing one of Rons favorite teams the Edmonton Oilers, the topic of debate was Gretzky or Howe, which was always a spirited debate for Ron

Which would usually veer off into a personal story about one of their wives (Janet Gretzky on smoking or Colleen Howe mothering Murray Howe from another man besides Gordie).

And sometimes a transition to Jimmy Carson

A good game by the Red Wings last night on Hockey Night in Canada, as they won against the (as Sid would say) cal-GARRY Flames.

As we approach Super Bowl sunday, thinking back to those Sunday shows that he would have when a Super Bowl was on. Almost has exciting when shows fell on holidays, but we listened.

The play by play was the highlight :)

The reports of its death greatly exaggerated, the latest (February 2025) Yellow Pages (Oakland South Central) arrived in my mailbox today. Would that Ron was still around for me to attempt delivery.

I had to change my user name from Bobbert to Bobbertt (with two t's). I got a new desktop PC and I couldn't log in to the old account, despite attempts to fix things through Buzzboard tools.

When Ron's Sunday night show fell on Super Bowl Sunday, there was always his scintillating soliloquy during the last half hour on what he would do after the show ended:
  • Stay in the studio and watch the rest of the game.
  • Go to his motel and watch the rest of the game.
  • Go to dinner.
  • Some combination of the above.

In Search Of..., With Ron Cameron would have been a good mid-season replacement reality show on Fox, showing the absurdly comical journeys Ron would take to complete simple tasks like:
  • Finding a phone book.
  • Finding an old phone number.
  • Finding a motel with Bally Sports Detroit.
  • Finding a place that sells USA Today Sports Weekly.

I see Ike Blasett is coming to the local card show in Troy in March-autographs are free

Speaking of sports cards-a bit off topic but remember the explosion of Pokémon questions when he had a card store as a commercial add

Two good examples of how exposure on Ron's show boosted the earning power of people (Ike) and products (Pokémon).

On the first anniversary of Ron's death...

Try to remember the shows of Ron Cameron
Where old time sports stars still had a voice
Try to remember the shows of Ron Cameron
Besides The Ticket, you had a choice

Try to remember the shows of Ron Cameron
You anxiously waited to hear his next show
Try to remember, then call up your memories
And listen, listen

Try to remember the dreams of Ron Cameron
Of restaurants, sports teams, and magazines
Try to remember the dreams of Ron Cameron
Not all succeeded, but still he tried

Do you remember the calls to Ron Cameron
From Kurt and Cowboy and Mister P.
Try to remember, then call up your memories
And listen, listen

Do you remember the guests of Ron Cameron
Like Paul and Denny and Rich and Mark
Try to remember, then call up your memories
And listen, listen
