Although we know not to put any stock on Ron's timetable for making announcements, but "3-4 weeks" for his announcement of a new schedule?! That would put it right in time for his scheduled surgery. With Ron's recovery schedule unknown, what sense does it make to make most-surgery plans before the operation? Unless there's some connection with Ron's possible move to the Townsend. Maybe Ron's plans to both recuperate there &, in an homage to the vintage Tex & Jinx show, use it as his new (temporary?) radio home.

During Ron's recovery, I'm guessing that he'll make Monty Wooley's "recuperating-guest-from-hell" performance in The Man Who Came to Dinner look very tame by comparison.

I've gotta believe that Ron's impending knee surgery, and subsequent rehab is going to put a significant dent in his ability to sell ads. Only so much a one man operation can do. We may see the show go on temporary hiatus for a month or two.

In a Tigers-only MLBTR chat, Kurt (the Hurt) gets in two questions, at 2:40 & 2:53.

Combero hit his fourth HR last night, after Ron said he would only have one all year, tied for second most career as a Tiger. He's tied with Norm Cash who of course played on the greatest Tiger team ever- 1961.

Mr. Positive should bring that up tomorrow.

Friend of the Ron Cameron show, caller Super Riseda called into Valenti and Rico yesterday, saying that Mel Tucker should stay.

I wonder if he knows Ron has moved?

What with Ron "burying" so many of his missing callers/emailers, it's good to hear he, for one, is still around. I don't recall Super R. ever calling Ron on WPON; my memory is that only called when Ron was on WDTK. And he hadn't called Ron there long before Ron's exit.

Maybe Ron should have Terry Two Strokes back on. Terry was raving about all the high school football players who were making informal commitments to Mel Tucker and MSU.

It’s on channel 2. All games are aired on broadcast TV in their home markets. Unlike the blackout rule, it doesn’t air in adjacent markets like Toledo or Flint.

All of this is too complicated for Ron.

Things To Look Forward To ON The Ron Cameron Friday Experience:

A) How long into the show will Ron be bashing "Combrero"???
B) The last 3 games are all sold out. In Ron's world, this means the Tigers gave away most all of the tickets.
C) Busses and caravans
D) Jake Rogers
E) How "Combrero" wouldn't have as many home runs if they hadn't moved the fences in.
F) Road construction
G) One man operation
H) Bad knees
I) No new studio chair
J) Sima loves him.
K) Managerial death watch
L) Mr. Positive
M) Ghost of Al Capone
N) E-mailers are all dead
O) Mentioning other radio stations
P) Match Game
Q) The grassy knoll
R) 1957 color TV
S) How he should be in every hall of fame, even The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
T) Lost phone #'s...that darn maid
U) 1961 Tigers
V) Lions were lucky
W) Red Wings might get into the playoffs, if Maury finds out who is Murray Howe's real father.
X) Ads drying up.
Y) George Blaha would be digging ditches if it weren't for Ron
Z) No guts
AA) Cupcakes
AB) Out and out hate for Tiger broadcasters (Because he thinks he should have the job).
AC) How he saved all sports, including high stakes poker.
AD) The endless list of people who bought Ron dinner, and the longer list of people who owe Ron dinner.
AE) Rams Horn

That...and a whole lot more...on the fastest two hours of Friday brokered radio, The Ron Cameron Experience...on THE BIG 1460...WPON...The Pontiac Blowtorch!!!

Covered it well

I will add two more: Penn state will crush Michigan

And the next series will be “interesting” for the Tigers

Tigers could very well finish second in the division, mainly because Cleveland "pooped in their pants".

For L, some questions for Mr. Positive to ask:
  • What was the greatest thrill that Ron experienced watching Miguel Cabrera?
  • What will Ron miss the most about Miguel Cabrera?
  • Does Ron wish that he could just one more time hear Jim Price call Miguel Cabrera "The Big Man"?

Ron has been talking a lot recently about his relationship with former UM basketball star Tim McCormick. Here's an article from the 7/19/81 Detroit Free Press that gives a lot of background. It's a long article, but it's filled with a lot of insights, irony, and unintentional humor. It was also published about two months before WXYZ fired Ron.

DETROIT FREE PRESS SUNDAY. JULY 19, 1981

Radio sports guru has the ear of U-M star
Cameron and McCormick are in step on knee problems

By BILL McGRAW Free Press Sports Writer

He lives in a sparsely furnished apartment in Birmingham with nothing on the walls but white paint. There is a TV In the middle of the living room with a video cassette recorder on top. A radio is nearby, on the floor. On a coffee table lie several professional team guides and sports books.
Mr. Positive, with the Birmingham city fathers preparing to roll out the red carpet for Ron's long-awaited return, could you please also ask Ron where he once lived in Birmingham?
