I think the lefties in our state have finally learned no one is going to cover for them if they try to institute lock-down idiocy again. There aren't enough lawyers to handle the suits that would correctly follow.
There are plenty of wannabee politicians (comedians) here in PolPot, but many of those who used to lather up to be the gubner's shield on the matter have since "changed their mind"...

No, she didn't. She focused on cultural stuff when even Whitmer was scared she could be vulnerable from her terrible COVID handling.Rate This wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 9:01 pmDixon tried like holy hell to make it about lockdowns. You don’t carry a 55% approval rating and get scared about stuff like that… that’s weak.Matt wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 9:36 pmNo, she didn't. I will say we could use another one. Over a million Americans died, but judging by Grand River, not one of them was from Livingston County.

Curious, how many people should have died during the pandemic to make you happy?
I take it you don't know anyone in healthcare either. Ignorance is the conservative way I guess.

Anyone who passed during the pandemic has my empathy, I was not happy...
I know many in Healthcare, again just because I lean a certain way in my politics , you instantly assume I think a certain way...

Let me be clear that I still support the lockdowns that were done. They did in fact work according to several studies. Things would have been worse.
The only reason I oppose future lockdowns is under the assumption that the mortality risk doesn’t approach pre Omicron levels.

Yea, the "lockdowns" worked great for those old folks who ended up with COVID-positive folks "locked" in with them!!!
DOH!!

So MCRF/TCT are to lockdowns as BMW is to Trump? It's ok for you all to admit you were wrong.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 2:38 amLet me be clear that I still support the lockdowns that were done. They did in fact work according to several studies. Things would have been worse.

Re: New "highly mutated" strain of Covid - first US case in Michigan
No logical argument can be made that the lockdowns "worked" when over 80 percent of the population ultimately contracted Covid. It could be argued that there was marginal benefit prior to the vaccine being widely available and when a relatively low percentage of natural immunity existed, but I wold argue that the harm caused by the lockdowns far outweighed this small benefit.
Now as an aside, maybe Matt will admit he was wrong about herd immunity not being a thing. Herd immunity is precisely why Covid is pretty much just 5% the concern it was even a year ago.

The lockdowns did slow the initial rate of infection somewhat as did the distancing and closures… so it may have eased the strain on the healthcare system a little bit.bmw wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 10:01 amNo logical argument can be made that the lockdowns "worked" when over 80 percent of the population ultimately contracted Covid. Re: New "highly mutated" strain of Covid - first US case in Michigan
I don't think I ever said herd immunity wasn't a thing. I suggested that everyone, including those that previously infected, should be vaccinated. Mass vaccination of 90% or greater would have had us in this position 2 years ago.bmw wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 10:01 amNo logical argument can be made that the lockdowns "worked" when over 80 percent of the population ultimately contracted Covid. Re: New "highly mutated" strain of Covid - first US case in Michigan
After seeing my dad’s V02 Max dip directly after he took the booster(not the original vaccine), I regret getting the booster. He does as well. I don’t regret getting the initial vaccine series due to fact that they were moderately effective against death.
I still think masks and social distancing are still a good idea in high risk, high trafficked areas. However, they shouldn’t be mandatory.
