Channel 4 wins yet again (8/24 tornadoes)
Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
It looks like on their crawl that they were pushing to 50. That looks like a higher powers decision. Knowing Ahmed and his previous coverage I would expect he gave them an ear full for not being on CBS and moving to 50 instead.

All of Kent County, Ontario is now under a tornado warning.
OnTopic - did the crawl use the (as of now virtually unknown) "DETROIT50" brand? Almost no one knows what "DETROIT50" is.
The WKBD 50 brand should be revived.

I hope the Aldi warehouse near Webberville didn't take a direct hit. The fairly strong couplet moved directly over that location. That tornado spun up, intensified and moved fast. Not time for much advance warning unfortunately given those circumstances.
Based on my review of radar data at the time, my guess would be an EF-1 to low end EF-2 tornado (which is still pretty darn strong - 120 mph winds potentially).

Hopefully not… that’s also right on 96…MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 11:29 pmI hope the Aldi warehouse near Webberville didn't take a direct hit. The storms held together over Lake Erie. Its heading into downtown Cleveland.
Tornado warning issued for Cuyahoga. 75 MPH winds reported at Burke Airport.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
The rain is off to my southeast now and there is still vivid lightning close by… the atmosphere must be really charged right now.
Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
In West Michigan Wood TV, Fox17 & WZZM went wall to wall at 8PM WWMT stayed with CBS I don't know if they did cut-ins for the storms. I guess WWMT thinks they be in last place and think that the rivals would win no matter what they do. I only saw a flash of lighting where I lived no thunder didn't get a drop of rain either were right that the storms were going to be southeast when they issued a level 3.
Sorry for those dealing with the storms the past couple of days and dealing with tornados on the east side of the state and CBS62 nowhere to be found how is anyone going to take them seriously now that they didn't go wall to wall when the storms rolled threw in Detroit and surrounding areas? Epic fail by CBS62 should fire the ND & GM at the station.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
Whoever made that call at 62 made the absolute wrong call. I doubt it was the ND who wanted coverage relegated to low rated channel 50. He would've wanted that coverage on both channels, in all likelihood. (Scripps was wall to wall on both 7 and 20.)
When I made my first post on the matter last night, I was unaware coverage was occurring on channel 50.
50 & 62's radar graphics stink, by the way. The "flat" look to the map makes northern areas look smaller than southern areas and also makes geographic placement of storm cells more difficult to discern to the viewer. Most TV outlets moved away from that look 15+ years ago.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
When the first tornado warning for Genesee county was issued, I was flipping back and forth between WNEM, WJRT, and WEYI. 25 was late to the party as usual, Brian Ivey from WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio (!!!) was providing coverage. Typical Sinclair.
I changed over to Detroit once the storms moved south. 62's lack of coverage is just inexcusable. WDIV and WXYZ (and on 20) did a fine job.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
This Plymouth resident almost did, but the light show to the northeast was so amazing that I stayed upstairs (a few quick steps from my basement stairs). I did get all my flashlights ready.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 10:22 pmAnyone in Plymouth and points east and SE needs to take cover NOW.
I flipped through 2, 4, and 7, and ended up on 2. The coverage and what I could see outside gave me a real feeling of fear, but Rich Luterman's map clearly showed that the storm was veering south of where I live. It went through quickly, and by 11 o'clock, even my cat had come upstairs from the basement.
Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
The Tornado in Ingham and Livingston counties was an EF-1 with 105 mph winds per NWS.

Thanks for the info. Sounds right based on damage photos I've seen.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
All the storms happen during late night. I was sleeping as I have to work in the morning.
So I could not be up to watch the channels. I will say this, channel 2 does a wonderful job like the last storm a couple Fridays ago.
Too bad none of these storms happen during the working hours and always on a weekend or night time.

Rate This, by chance do you have a URL for the survey of the Williamston area tornado?
The third hand info I've seen suggests top winds of only 90 mph.
Thanks in advance!
Here's one regarding a weak tornado in Canton:

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
The third hand information might be right, the 90 figure is from the Livingston county side and they say the survey is ongoing per their Twitter feed as of 1105am. They have not put out a synopsis with a track and all that yet. NWS Grand Rapids will be surveying two sites today… one in Kent County and one in Northeastern Ingham County. I assume Detroit is handing the Ingham County side of the 90mph tornado.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 1:11 pmRate This, by chance do you have a URL for the survey of the Williamston area tornado?
