anecdotal for sure but they just towed 3 of 4 AAPS school buses away. The 4th one is listed under "long term repair" on the board.

They are Thomas's... not exactly great electrical systems on them... then you throw in the EV part. In the late 90's AAPS had a Natural Gas powered Thomas... it fared about the same... down more than it was up. It was a gift from Michcon.

Given the bloated military development budget, this is great news. Just imagine the kinds of breakthroughs they will have when it's funded by the largest military in the world. I doubt they'll hit their goal but I bet there will be H*** progress.

Very good point.
Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. There's no going back, and we can only go forward before we run out of runway.

Dream on. Even SpaceX is ahead of NASA.
The power to weight ratio makes this impractical, as well as recharging issues.

I have a 4200 pound engine that produces 210 hp. It was used during W. W. II in Dukw's and Duces. Today you can deliver that horsepower in less than 400 pounds.
Until we are challenged to improve electric we can't realize it's potential. This is what darpa is for.
Do you work for big oil, or does your God tell you it's your purpose to defend it to the world?

If anybody can double or triple current ranges it’s the military.. they’ll be the ones to get us to 1000+ miles on a charge.audiophile wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 7:32 pmDream on. Even SpaceX is ahead of NASA.

Back in the 1960s, there were a couple of older ladies who showed their electric car from the 1930s at Antique Car Shows in Michigan. It ran on numerous 12 Volt Lead Acid Batteries. Really they haven't made that much progress in 90 years. For golf carts, interplant mail carts, short trips to the grocery store, etc., OK. For commuting, vacationing, long trips to relatives, not so good.
National career poiticians really don't understand driving. They are the last people who should be making decisions about what people drive.
People are getting beat up, robbed, beaten to death, and thrown into the path of subway trains now in many major cities. Don't tell me public transportation is the answer.

I notice you weren't quoting an electric motor producing 210 hp that weighed 400 pounds, because the battery pack would weight 8000+ pounds to give a tank adequate distance.TC Talks wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 10:32 pmI have a 4200 pound engine that produces 210 hp. This is basic physics and common sense. The battlefield is not the place to be experimenting with woke ideas on a forced 2030 deadline.
PS how is the GMC Hummer EV working out? 3000 pound battery on vehicle they can't hardly get off the ground.

Re: America’s Commander-in-Chief just laid another egg.
The GMC Hummer EV gets 300+ miles of range, you plug it in every night and most people don’t drive that far daily. Plus you get most of that back when you charge for 30 minutes which on a trip is breakfast, lunch and dinner length. Get a clue. Charging station availability is the issue.audiophile wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 6:14 amI notice you weren't quoting an electric motor producing 210 hp that weighed 400 pounds, because the battery pack would weight 8000+ pounds to give a tank adequate distance.TC Talks wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 10:32 pmI have a 4200 pound engine that produces 210 hp. We can always find failures at the beginning of a technology. Change is hard.
Thomas can't make an EV bus, but Blue Bird is doing a great job.
Once we put our military minds to the challenge, we will get better.
