The media is having a hard time with this one.

Some just calling the shooter a “resident.” Some refer to the shooter as “they.”

We do know these two indisputable facts:

1. The shooter had mental problems.
2. The shooter is a biological male identifying as a female.

Oh, and if the victims were trans, the media would point that out. So why not the shooter?

First I'll say that my heart goes out to the families affected by this. I can't even imagine what they're going through.

But that said, this is a Politics forum, so I have to address the politics of this as well, and just from what I've read, the media's bias is very apparent in how they're reporting this. Take this lengthy CNN blog-like "update" page on the shooting:

Not once do they refer to the shooter as a "she," and only once do they mention that the shooter was a female. But here's specifically how they reported that:

Police have referred to Hale as the “female shooter” and at an evening press conference added that Hale was transgender. When asked for clarification, a spokesperson told CNN Hale used “male pronouns” on a social media profile.

Note that CNN is NOT stating as a factual matter that the shooter is a female, but rather that the police are "referr[ing]" to the shooter as being female.

New York Times? They almost got there. They ran a story with the headline "How Rare Is It for a Woman to Commit a Mass Shooting?" but the story was quickly edited and the headline changed to "Most mass shooting suspects are male." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/27/us/w ... ville.html

Transgender or not, I don't care, but the media is tip-toeing around this issue so as not to rile up the LGBTQ community, and as such, this is political correctness run amuck. The shooter was a BIOLOGICAL FEMALE and that is newsworthy for the simple fact that it is almost always men who engage in mass school shootings, and the few examples of women doing this are usually with a woman acting as an accomplice to a man.

Thanks for being one of the only adults in a political discussion.

Calling out media bias is what we all should be doing.

Mainstream media: “First gay to walk on the moon. First lesbian AG. First openly gay professional athlete… Yay!”
