After years of poor numbers in the Atlanta ratings, and a weekend of Bittersweet Symphony on loop, Rock 100.5 is gone. It's replacement is a return of 99X (Not on a translator or HD signal this time), with a classic alternative format, very similar, if not the same as 91X in San Diego. Will this be a success in Atlanta?

Sooooooo....any chance we could have that here in Detroit?

It's been said by some that Classic Alternative is the logical progression of the Alternative format in general. Much like when AOR was playing new songs by core artists in the late 1980s/early 1990s... nobody really cared anymore, and the quality of the new product was subpar... so it started aiming more towards classic rock instead. So, in time, I'd expect Classic Alternative outlets in more cities (like Detroit)... especially if it really does work in places like San Diego, Indianapolis and now Atlanta.

At a minimum. At the very, very least. Give us a station where we don't have to sit through Def Leppard and Ozzy Osbourne to hear the 90s and 00s rock. Love them both, but it's about time we got our "classic rock" for alternative.

classic alternative would be a good replacement for 93.1's boring country format. Maybe they could revive the "Planet" brand that was on 96.3...

I've been listening to the relaunched 99X online quite a bit these past couple days. I like what I've been hearing.

96.3 (admittedly, I don't listen THAT often) sounds like a catch-all format like it was until around 2006 or so. I swung by and heard Without Me by Eminem today. Hearing 50 Cent and Eminem on 96.3 just sounds...weird.mapletrees wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 10:52 pmMega Hertz wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 9:26 pmAt a minimum. At the very, very least. 96.3 has lost its way, and the ratings reflect that reality unfortunately.

The D has never been a strong market for the alt rock format. The format failed miserably on 106.7, failed on 105.1, and is sort of hanging in there on 98.7, only reason being 89x is gone. 97.1 flopped as a rock station. Planet 96.3 had poor ratings for years and The Alternative Classics format was a bust. Detroit loves it's crust bucket butthole rock.
So my guess is, NO. Atlanta is a more diverse more happening city. Don't look for changes at WDRQ, the ratings seem to be gaining as of late.
I will listen to 99x and see how it is.
