MSU fined $100k by Big Ten, extends suspensions

The video of Izzo's comments are much more forceful than the written word: http://twitter.com/JimComparoni/status/ ... kUoBxsv2KQ

Mel Tucker gets paid $9.5 million a year.
Yet, Tommy Izzo is whining about $100k. Hilarious.
Tommy Izzo didn't seem all that worried about security when he and his son walked the field during pre-game.

How will this impact the careers of the MSU players?

Seriously?
Their collegiate career is over based on the arrest warrants. They’ll be off the team no doubt. They also screwed the pooch on a NFL career. Their reputation is completely tarnished and any competent NFL team won’t go near them.

If that is your point Robert, then why does MSU, the institution, have to pay a fine? How did the institution, including the coaching staff, fail in its efforts? A 15 second incident, not instigated by coaches or administration (and perhaps instigated by opposing players) cannot have been prevented by administration. However, as you admit, it COULD have been prevented by an institution that had been previously warned that something might happen.Robert Faygo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 6:29 pmConcerning that Izzo seems to be unable to discern the difference between what the Michigan athletic department did wrong with security (not criminal behavior under any definition) and what particular individuals did wrong in getting physical with other actual humans (alleged criminal behavior). I mean, he is a grown-up that should be able to identify such differences in culpability! A grown-up!

Back when that tunnel was built, athletes were rarely involved in unsportsmanlike conduct.
Our friend in Haslett listens to WKAR-FM all day long and doesn't think it was a big deal, and blames the Michigan player for being in the tunnel at the same time.

You really believe that in the long history of that stadium, pushing shoving and taunting was rare? I suspect the prevalence of cameras shed light on it this year, but there is no way Woody Hayes and others held hands with Michigan walking through that tunnel.

The NFL often turns a blind eye to criminal activity, Realist.
Also, only Crump's collegiate career is at risk of being finished. The other players' suspensions have already concluded, in fact.

State just paid its football coach $1.9M per win this season... I think they'll be able to handle $100,000.

The primary purpose of security is to serve as a reminder to those present that misbehavior will not tolerated. The secondary purpose is to respond to incidents.Honeyman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 12:16 amIf that is your point Robert, then why does MSU, the institution, have to pay a fine? One of the many purposes of an educational institution is to teach young men and women the difference between right and wrong. When involved in a public-facing entity such as a D1 football team, there is also training that involves decisions about inflicting direct physical harm on others in non-game situations.
We, as society of laws, currently believe that the failure of the latter is a bigger transgression than the former. MSU failed in its efforts to teach these young men to not act the way they did - even if provoked some manner and even if they thought no one was looking.
These laws and behavioral expectations are not something that was just cooked up in October and November of 2022 solely to make MSU look bad.
So yes, there were clearly multiple failures here. However they are not equal failures.
I'm not exactly sure what else to say when basically every piece of evidence and decision about what happened that has been published by authorities has been against MSU.
It might just be that MSU and the MSU players fucked up more.

I've tried to ignore your trolling attempts and apologize for my failure in responding now.Graham Wellington wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 6:23 amYou really believe that in the long history of that stadium, pushing shoving and taunting was rare? In the long history of that stadium, postgame scuffles are indeed extremely rare. Pregame, and halftime ... not so much.
You bring up Woody Hayes. Here is video following Michigan's 1969 titanic upset of what was probably of the greatest Ohio State team of all time. Start watching at about 6:10.
Of note, in addition to the massive number of police officers present lining the tunnel entrance, are the Ohio State and Michigan players leaving the field together. Some of the Michigan players were even expressing their happiness right in the faces of the Ohio State players.

The players can't be fined MSU was going to get hit with $100k surprised it wasn't over a million dollars by the Big 10. OSU tear the Michigan banner in 73 or 74 clips I have seen a million times.
