Lack of new hires on Television

Post by BirdieKingBobo » Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:04 pm

Has anyone else noticed the lack of new hires at Up North Live and 9 and 10??? Usually by now there are new hires on the airwaves, but I haven't seen any...

There are probably a few reasons. But in the end it all boils down to money.

7 & 4 had an older, kinda butch-looking white-haired dude filling in for Joe Charlevoix recently (kinda reminded me of the Drew Carey of old), but he doesn't show on the station's web site. New face for the station, but guessing that doesn't count as a new hire, though...

The older guy is Keith Thompson, the Chief Meteorologist of WWMT in Kalamazoo; the sister station of WPBN. I think he was helping out since Heather is overworked, the morning dude is still undergoing cancer treatments, and Joe probably had family issues to deal with or vacation.

I didn't know Mark is still dealing with it after four years.

Local television hires are so difficult right now; that 9 and 10 hired something to grow on Bill Froelich's face.... UGH... I couldn't stand the guy before the beard... now... I want to vomit....

Matthew Doyle left....
Madison Ryke is leaving....

Who's going to be left???

Yeah, Bartelmay's been off & on with the same facial experiment over the summer. Freedom has a price.

As for the exits...

Doyle seemed a solid sports guy, but it would appear left broadcasting altogether last month... and Ryke, who - a 2 short years in - is arguably one of the more polished and professional of Brewvine & 10's WeathaBunch - is leaving for Columbus, Ohio soon.

Columbus!?!

Things don't appear to be looking all that good for the Caddy-Kids at the moment.

Good production values alone will not keep people watching.
Who's going to be left???
Good question.

On which side of 'the tube': Production, or consumption?

Word out of Heritage House is that Jamie Mankiewicz, Executive Producer of the four is leaving this Friday. She along with four other former employees have left for NewsNet. The bleeding continues on Broadcast Way.

Alot of bios have vaporized off the Brewvine & 10 website just this week... Lauren Creighton for one...

How long before the For Sale sign pops up on the lawn of the mausoleum on 131 south of Caddy?

With Mario Iacobelli's recent passing, that may be at least a semi-plausible rumor.

Is Nexstar going to buy 9&10/Fox32 or Gray, Scripps, etc?

Not sure if - as organman initially implied - it has to do with $$$, or if there are other unknown, lucky, special, magic reasons, but off the top of my head they have trimmed:

Xavier Hershovitz
Madison Schlegel
Lauren Creighton

and the last known Adkins off the rolls. Some of those who remain appear to be doing 2x duty filling holes in the locally-produced The Four and the recently added Good Morning Northern Michigan.

It would be interesting to know if they've closed their satellite news offices outside of Caddy as well.

You can include Jamie from the four as well. The station is a complete dumpster fire with no leadership and morale at an all-time low. Anchors are doing two and three shows daily, and the ND is producing the incredibly bad, no focus and no direction "Good Day Northern Michigan". They are making demo talent reels faster than making news.
