Shits 96.5 in Kalamazoo has already abandoned CHR/Pop.
This morning, the station evidently pivoted to Hot AC with a pronounced Modern AC lean.

That's what she said.

This is not new. WZOX has been sporting a Hot AC playlist since late last year. However, the Modern AC lean may be a newer addition.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 11:22 amShits 96.5 in Kalamazoo has already abandoned CHR/Pop.

Hits 96.5 always reminded me of what Midwest did with i92.9 in Lansing toward the end - lots of recurrents and Hot AC gold most CHRs backed away from years ago (i.e. Kelly Clarkson). I figured it as a loser from day one.
It looks like they jettisoned a lot (not all) of the rhythmic stuff they were playing before and replaced it with AAA currents/recurrents and softer 90s-10s alternative. Reminds me a lot of Cleveland's failed "JenY". The modern AC lean, according to the play log on their web site, has existed at least a month.

Thanks for the info. The current music mix is certainly unique. I do not expect it to perform any better than the CHR format it replaced.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
Re: That didn't last long...
I listen to WZOX a lot. They have skewed more toward Hot AC for months (lots of songs from 10-20 years ago on the playlist), but I've definitely noticed a heavier lean to alternative songs from the past 20 years within the past month or so. I used to know a lot of the older pop songs they'd play, but I'm finding myself listening and not knowing a lot of these more alternative songs. For a while after hearing so many "new" alternative songs I was thinking alternative is the new pop or something, but nope. I looked up a few of the "new" songs I had never heard before, and I found out they were all 15 years old. Whoops.
