Supreme Court Rulings
Supreme Court Rulings
A flurry of them coming down the line soon…
Third time they have upheld Obamacare. The vote was 7-2 to dismiss. This was the challenge that argued that because the tax is now 0 the law is therefore invalid.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
They have ruled 9-0 that the city of Philadelphia violated the constitution by limiting ties with Catholic Social Services over its gay adoption stance and refusal to certify same sex couples as foster parents.
Re: Supreme Court Rulings
It will be interesting to see if we continue to see 7+ majorities as we get to the end of the term later this month. It would be good for the country rather than a bunch of 5-4 or 6-3 decisions.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
The single biggest Supreme court vote is 9-0.
But only hot button cases make the news making it seem the court is overly political.

I've long believed conservative nominees are less likely to be ideologically driven then their liberal counterparts.

Alito and Thomas would disagree with you. Especially Alito who is aggrivated that he doesn't seem to have any new friends.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
Matt is correct here. There are NUMEROUS examples the past few years of conservative justices siding with liberal justices to put the liberal-leaning opinion at or over the 5-4 threshold. However, what you won't find is a single example of a vote where both a liberal and a conservative crossed sides in the same case - in other words, a case where a conservative crossed sides to give the liberal opinion the majority but a liberal justice crossing sides at the same time to put the vote back to a conservative outcome. The 4 (now 3) liberal justices ALWAYS stick together in the close cases. ALWAYS, without fail.

Except Thomas was in the 7-2 pro-ACA ruling JUST. THIS. WEEK.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
You don't have to just believe it. It is an actual statistical fact.
People keep track of how often a so called conservative justice will join the liberals and on the flip side how often a liberal will join the conservatives in a close 5-4 vote or 6-3 vote.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
Agreed. Maybe they actually *believe* in the constitution and not try to legislate from the bench.
