Elvis

Post by sfpcc » Thu Oct 22, 2020 4:16 pm

Has anyone heard an Elvis song on Detroit radio in the last year? five years? (10 years?) I only listen to radio in my car and my presets are just four stations, (WDET, WWJ, Michigan Public Radio 90.7,and WCSX.) I'm really not sure which format would Elvis fit into these days, (I guess he's to old for Rock or Country formats.)

Yep.

"Blue Christmas" every single year forever on 4-5 different stations.

I would imagine Elvis is still in the mix on 580 CKWW, 1460 WPON and all of our three HD2/HD3 Oldies side channels. And AM 740 Toronto (while it's not "Detroit radio" it comes in well at night).

Burning Love and Suspicious Minds play on CKWW. I would assume the 60s and early 60s stuff would be on WPON.

Not in several years, unless you're referring to WOMC-HD-2.

Aside from Christmas music and maybe the occasional play on Ann Delisi's Essential Music (WDET-FM), I haven't heard an Elvis Presley song on a Detroit analog FM in at least ten to fifteen years, probably more.

CKWW and WPON, for sure.

Elvis SUCKS!!!

His removal from radio station playlists eveywhere is one of a very few bright spots in an otherwise dreary period for commercial radio!

I keep thinking this is a thread about slo-motion replays in sports.

I was indifferent to Elvis when I was younger. He was someone that my mother liked and that was about it.

As I got older, I appreciated him more, especially the way that he blended different influences into something unique. A turning point was when I saw Jailhouse Rock on the big screen at the Redford Theatre. That scene where his producer pushed him to express his music better helped me better understand what made Elvis special.

I've even learned to like many of his movies, especially It Happened at the World's Fair and Viva Las Vegas. In those movies, he sang a variety of interesting songs that probably didn't get much airplay even when they were first released.

This video of a song by Neil Young gives a full picture of Elvis (including what looks like excerpts from a movie about him).

Yeah, as I understand it, he never wrote any of his material.

However... he was a good entertainer.
