Yesterday, I was waiting in a fast-food drive-in line, at Grand River (M-5) and Southfield Fwy (M-39), waiting to get my food.
I decided to turn on the radio to alleviate the boredom, was listening to 1450, and recognized the station as WLEC. There was the faintest co-channel carrier under it. No trace of WHLS (or any other station) was present.
Used to be that WHLS was fair when I lived in Detroit Proper (Harper & Cadieux), so I'm guessing it's gone. I believe that WHLS had an FM translator.
I'd be interested to know if they're still broadcasting on only the translator (a no-no).
Acceptable registrations in the queue through March 16 at 11:00a ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Sometimes, there are issues with the AM transmitters, transmission lines, and ground systems which take longer to deal with because people are listening to the translators. Take a trip to somewhere near Port Huron and see if you can hear it nearby. No, you can't keep running the translator indefinitely without a functioning AM station, at least as far as I know. Contract and corporate engineers are consulting stations to get their stations up to snuff.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

The AM tower also supports WSAQ and the Translators, so there unless the transmitter broke there is no reason it should be off.
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

I'm the engineer in Port Huron.
We did have some issues but everything is resolved and we are up. Thanks for listening!
