WJML
Re: WJML
Today(10-1) here in Traverse,WJNL's translator 101.1was dead air all day,1110 WJML was regular programming and interestingly,AM 1210 WJNL was simulcasting 101.1 WGRY out of Grayling with the CBS sports radio network.
Just wondering if Blarney Stone Broadcasting is now operating another one of John Yob's stations.I believe the license for the 101.1 translator expired today.

Re: WJML
They'd have to be really stupid to enter into an LMA for a daytime only AM station, unless the FM translator comes with it.

Especially a daytimer with a bad coverage area! I can barely get it in ManisteeMWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 8:09 amThey'd have to be really stupid to enter into an LMA for a daytime only AM station, unless the FM translator comes with it.

I hate to whiz on the charcoal at your cookout, but even the stations in Ludington couldn't care less about Manistee. Why would a daytime AM that's 100 miles away give a shit?ftballfan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 9:04 amEspecially a daytimer with a bad coverage area! Re: WJML
I have a no info, but If I had to venture a guess I'd say it came down to budgets. Could be JML's owners just weren't prepared for the magnitude of capital that fueled KHQ out of the gate. Tim Moore came to the game prepared with investors, ready to outspend the competition.

He was referring to AM 1210 WJNL (not WJML), which is licensed to Kingsley.I hate to whiz on the charcoal at your cookout, but even the stations in Ludington couldn't care less about Manistee. Why would a daytime AM that's 100 miles away give a shit?
AM 1210 Kingsley simulcasts AM 1110 Petoskey.
You are correct, though, to suggest TC-Petoskey market stations generally aren't worried about listenership in Manistee County.

Re: WJML
At the FCC today, application from Mitten News LLC of Grand Rapids, current owner of WJNL requests this:
APPLICANT PROPOSES NO CHANGES TO THE BROADCAST FACILITY OTHER THAN TO REDUCE POWER FROM 50 KW DAYTIME TO 10 KW DAYTIME. CRITICAL HOURS TO REMAIN AT 2.5 KW. ADDITIONAL EXHIBITS DEMONSTRATE COMPLIANCE WITH COMMUNITY OF LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, DAYTIME PROTECTIONS, AND CRITICAL HOURS PROTECTIONS.
This would certainly chop the 1210 power bill dramatically.

Re: WJML
It's why Manistee, Benzie and Wexford Counties are being dropped from the new Nielsen metro that is now TC-Petoskey (Cadillac has been dropped from it). The other eight counties are staying. It's also my understanding there just two companies commitment to subscribing... MacDonald-Garber and Black Diamond; as they are the only two who really benefit by keeping the most northern and eastern counties. That should drop an irrelevant Market #157 down to somewhere in the neighborhood of #200. I just can't imagine the juice being paid to Nielsen will generate the squeeze needed to profit from it, which is why Midwestern isn't likely playing ball out the gate. But I guess we shall see how it all plays out.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 8:08 pm

Wow, the existing configuration sure didn't last long! Wasn't Cadillac added just a couple years ago?
I'm a little surprised Benzie is being dropped given its relatively close proximity to Traverse City.

Re: WJML
Why is it that they didn't try to move closer to Traverse City years ago? Do they own that toxic waste site they are on? There are so many towers and sites, you would think they could do that and have a better signal where they really want it. Maybe a "paper clip" design?
Moving North of Kingsley is definitely an option.

Re: WJML
Clearly the amount of daily commuter traffic from Benzie to TC is far greater than it would be from the northern counties. In fact, I imagine daily commuter traffic is greater from Benzie into TC, than say Cheboygan or Gaylord into Petoskey. But the subscribers desperately need those areas, and not Benzie, as it doesn't play into the signal strengths. Wexford, Manistee and Benzie Counties work well for Midwestern (in particular WTCM-FM), but they're no longer subscribing. Cinderella's sisters have other plans for the market.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 7:06 amWow, the existing configuration sure didn't last long! Wasn't Cadillac added just a couple years ago?
