The Breeze is not too mellow. It's the poor song selection with lack of proper talent and imaging.
There's a reason this format is in the top 5 in every market it's in, besides us. Their song selections are not garbage like ours is.

Most of the playlist is fine, but things like "Rock Witcha" by Bobby Brown are not AC Standards and throw the sound off completely.

If they don't know what they are doing, they need to hire someone that does. Do they even have a PD?
Heck, I'll gladly program it for free.
Their slide is almost entirely due to COVID, reduction in commuting numbers, and many people who once worked in the office now working from home. I do agree the sound of the station could stand to be more cohesive.

Magic 105.1 by far had its best numbers in middays; all other dayparts were much weaker (except for the first few years Jim Harper was with the station). In Detroit, Soft AC geared to a lily white audience is heavily dependent on in-office listening.

Mistake #1 was not going Classic Rock under the "Wheels" banner. Such a format paired with The Ticket would've put a significant dent in Beasley's revenue at 94.7 & 101.1.

Mistake #2 was going lily white Soft AC - especially in regard to station imaging and DJ selection - as opposed to a rhythm infused Soft AC akin to 94.7 The Wave in Los Angeles. The station is geared toward menopausal (and older) Caucasian women who live in places such as Novi, Livonia, and Rochester Hills.

Granted, if COVID never occurred, I think 98.7's numbers would be better right now.
MW-
I wholeheartedly agree with #2. That is the original direction that they should have gone in. For a brief moment in early 2019 I thought they might be moving in that direction, with some of the Urban AC adds from Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, Freddie Jackson, etc., and adding Sandy Kovach, who’d be great with a 94.7 The Wave-type format. Even if they stay as-is, I wish they’d double their 250-song library.

Wrong again. We played "Rock Witcha" on WFMK's "Lights Out" when it was a brand new song, 30+ years ago. And you couldn't get more "white" than WFMK's audience. We also played Anita Baker, Whitney, Al Jarreau, George Benson, the Commodores, etc etc. Smooth R&B has a lot more mass appeal than the musical snowflakery of Imagine Dragons, Creed, Hinder, Five For Fighting, and other similar schlock. Honestly, when that crap comes on in the supermarket, I head for the checkout as fast as I can.

I think stopnswop2 would greatly enjoy the new Easy 93.3. in Lansing.

Doom and gloom Mike doesn't seem to be tanking The Ticket. Just the opposite it seems.
What's changed in the last month? Rico Beard and, as others mentioned already, the Tigers back on the air. So maybe "doom and gloom" Mike wasn't the turn around factor.

Over in the Valenti thread there was a lot of talk of people tuning out because of doom and gloom mike. Mentioned it because it doesn't seem to hurt the ratings much. Only time will tell in the end.

Since Valenti hasn't done anything different than he always does then the rather large jump in the current ratings must have to do with something else. Which might also suggest Valenti isn't the Lebanon James of the station who single-handedly drives whatever success they may have.

He is defiantly not.

But he also doesn't seem to be killing the stations ratings either as others suggest.

No argument from me. The guy is a bit of a lightening rod in that lots of people seem to either love him or hate him. The haters will blame him unfairly at times and the lovers will give him way more credit than he deserves.
