Eruption

Post by stopnswop2 » Sat Aug 01, 2020 6:20 am

Anyone remember Eruption?
They had two top 10 hits worldwide (top 20 in USA) with "One Way Ticket" and "I Can't Stand the Rain" in 1978.

They were produced by the infamous Frank Farian, producer of bands such as the legendary Boney M., La Bouche, and obviously Milli Vanilli.

20+ Year Top 40 formatted WTAC Big 600 was the first radio station in the United States to play "I Can't Stand The Rain". Then and only then did it spread to R & B Stations like WJLB Detroit and WVON Chicago. WDAI, which was briefly known as "Disco 'DAI" before it was "blown up" by Steve Dahl in Comiskey Park, played "One Way Ticket".

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Reading the title of this thread I thought you were talking about the Van Halen Instrumental, (stuff still sticks from high school.)

When 102.7 was a disco station as WLBS in 1979 they had that tune on the playlist. Great song and a great time in Detroit Radio. Another great tune is “Now That I Found You” by Detroit’s very own Al Hudson and One Way from 1979.

I guess when Rosalie Trombley rejected breaking a record at CKLW, promoters went to WTAC, as Bob Seger and Punch Andrews did themselves in 1966-1967. Chess Records bought WTAC back in the 1950s thinking the signal got into Detroit better. Between the pattern and the real conductivities in between, it didn't. They only kept it for a year or so, sold it, and bought suburban WHFC Cicero, IL (and WEHS/WHFC-FM 97.9 Chicago), renamed the AM station WVON, and the rest is history.

Everyone thought Trombley was a genius, but actually she was a pain in the ass. She was actually part of the reason for the fall of The Big 8 along with the CRTC.

I liked Ann Peebles version of "I Can't Stand The Rain" (from 1973) as well as "I Pity The Fool" (from 1971) on HI Records!!
