CKOT 1510

I know CKOT is no longer on 1510 but were they the last daytime only station in Canada? They did have a fairly decent signal for a 10,000 watt station that far up the dial when they were operating.

CKOT really boomed into the Straits Area during Critical Hours.

I used to go to Marine City back in the day and on a regular basis was able to receive CKOT clear, better than WLQV. CKOT had a fantastic signal during the 80’s and 90’s.

about a decade ago, it got approval to migrate to the FM band as CJDL-FM 107.3.

Then, it and its sister, CKOT-FM 101.3 got bought by Rogers Media.

Is 1510 still a valid Canadian frequency since there are so damn many 1520's in the States?

In my experience, the Canadian AM allotments in the Region II Database are never removed except with replacement with an equivalent allotment. Many US AM allotments have been removed from the Region II Database without replacement, so I don't know why this should be. CKOT 1510 had an application to move to 1200, but I think the FM move came along and they decided not to proceed. Both are still in the Region II Database as I recall.

Between Lake Erie and border land considerations, and the reduced 0.5 to 0.5 mV/m ground wave overlap requirement in the Agreement, I don't see why they couldn't still put a Daytime AM on 1510 there, but I don't think Canada allows new Daytimers anymore.

As I've pointed out before, Canada will refuse any new broadcasting franchise unless they can prove that the new franchise will not divert one listener away from any existing station.

0.5mV/m to 0.5mV/m, or 0.025mV/m, to 0.5mV/m?

I was responding to this post about 1520s precluding 1510. First adjacent protection is 0.5 mV/m to 0.5 mV/m under the Agreement with Canada.
