13 Nuns

Post by sfpcc » Fri Jul 24, 2020 9:36 am

13 Felician sisters in a convent in Livonia have died of Covid 19. This was on ABC's national newscast but I not sure if it was mentioned on the local news? (With so much going on it's hard to keep track.)

As far as I know everybody ran the story. Without knowing any details, it seems like some convents are more or less old folks homes for retired nuns and highly vulnerable to a Covid-19 outbreak.

WDIV Local 4 ran a fairly long story on it during their noon newscast on Thursday... it's very sad, whether you're a devoutly religious person or not...

According to a few different sources the average age for a nun is roughly 76. For a long time I heard this is becoming a vanishing profession, (maybe
Profession is the wrong word.) Although, when in lived in Nebraska I had a co worker at a survey center who was going to join an order. I guess she was in her early 20's, (I remember she kind of looked like Selena.) I don't think I ever got to talk to her. This was in 1998.

You are correct. This was news a couple months ago. I don't understand why it's picked up steam all of the sudden. Perhaps it made it to someone's newstream due to the slow news cycle during the summer? i.e. no protests, pandemic kind of old news, Trump no good soundbytes. Perhaps someone threw it into the stream and voila - hot stuff now.
