Whitler says might have to "dial back"
Re: Whitler says might have to "dial back"
Or what about not washing your hands after using the restroom at a supermarket and then going shopping? Should that be an offense worthy of being fined?
I just smell a very slippery slope here about 2 steps away from a full-blown nanny state.

I do have respiratory issues, but still opposed to having the government tell me I must wear a mask or to vaccinate that should be left to the individual. As far as the insurance they will always find an excuse to raise premiums so what’s new.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:48 amLucky615 - I thought you had respiratory issues???
People who do not vaccinate once it is proven safe to do so should be charged much higher insurance premiums (just as smokers and heavy drinkers are charged more).
Re: Whitler says might have to "dial back"
Or medical insurance companies raising our premiums because we don’t use hand sanitizer that is 62 percent or higher in alcohol content. Socialism is on its way to The USA.
Re: Whitler says might have to "dial back"
Individual rights are worth fighting for.
However, in the case of masks, individuals during a pandemic should not have the right to share the disease we are collectively trying to control by going maskless in public (mostly indoors) without a proportional "penalty" involved to recognize the shared sacrifices that are required by all to benefit all.
Wearing a mask is not a slippery slope item. Consider a mask to be the equivalent to a speed limit on your respiratory droplets.
MW and Audio are spot on.

If they are not sick there is NO WAY for them to get anyone else sick. According to our latest tests, about 97% of the population is NOT sick with the virus. Why penalize folks when they're REALLY not doing anyone else any harm???MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 4:10 pmNon mask wearers who are otherwise healthy should be fined to help defray the massive cost burden our medical organizations are incurring due to their irresponsible behavior.

You know what I meant when I said "otherwise healthy." Don't be a troll. I mean folks who do not have pre-existing chronic medical conditions that would otherwise prevent them from wearing a mask.If they are not sick there is NO WAY for them to get anyone else sick. Unless you've been living under a massive boulder, you are likely aware that carriers of COVID-19 are often asymptomatic at the onset, sometimes for as much as two weeks, yet carry the threat of spreading the virus to others.
100% yes - that should be worthy of a fine, at least in theory. That said, anyone who understands simple economic theory understands that resource scarcity exists, and focusing efforts & resources on enforcing such a law would likely take resources away from more beneficial endeavors. So, while such a deed is worthy of a fine in theory, it would not make practical sense to actively enforce such a law, in my opinion.Or what about not washing your hands after using the restroom at a supermarket and then going shopping? I will note that food establishments whose employees fail to wash their hands after doing their "personal business" are already subject to fines and other sanctions, if caught. Are you suggesting those laws be lifted?
I don't see what is so appealing about the "freedom" of eating food that is brimming with harmful bacteria.

By the way, "fines" from the government are hardly the only enforcement mechanism available to promote immunization.
Aside from higher health insurance premiums, schools can be permitted to deny entry to students who lack proper immunization, and employers can mandate vaccinations for employees as a condition of employment. All of these collectively would be very effective tools for promoting immunization.

One of my children had a bad reaction to a vaccination that caused night seizures.
Another one of my children got shingles after a chickenpox shot.
Needless to say we are done with ALL vaccinations.
The schools were not happy about it, but they understand.

Borrowed from social media ... but spot on:
The "I want my rights but no responsibilities!" anti-mask crowd seems to have come up with their cut-and-paste talking points.
So, "Mr.-I-Have-Rights/Freedom/Liberty/A Free Month of HBO", here's a newsflash: if you are part of the community, you have a responsibility to other members of the community. That's how "rights" and "freedom" work; they come with "responsibilities". It's a package deal, or else no one has a responsibility to respect your rights.
GTFO with your anti-mask crap. You just don't care enough about anyone else to slightly inconvenience yourself. You want all the "freedom" but none of the responsibilities that come with it. You're not fooling anyone, but you're doing a great job of looking like a narcissistic asshat.
