City Boy

Anyone familiar with City Boy?
They had some hits in Europe in the late 70s, but are only a one hit wonder here, with their 1978 single "5705"

Their hit "5705" is a rewrite of their song "Turn On To Jesus", supposedly a single from 1977. The video here is for the former song, with the other track played with it. I've got a vinyl copy of the "Book Early" album with their one hit on it.

They seem pretty good - I see them as a cross between ELO and Sweet. Having Robert John Lange producing them helped "5705", certainly.

The song "5705" went to # 27 in October of 1978 Billboard's Top 40 Charts. That was their only charted Billboard Hot 100 Single. The songs "What A Night" went to # 136 in December of 1978 & "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" at # 138 in January of 1980 & both songs on Record World charts. The album "Book Early" went to # 115 & their highest charted album on Billboard's Top 200 Album Charts in October 1978 & their last charted album. Their best album "Young Men Gone West" went to # 207 (Bubbling Under The Top 200 Album Charts) in October 1977!!

My first experience with them was watching a 1978 episode of Top of the Pops online and they performed "what a night". I rewound it probably 5 times and needed to hear more.
I went over to FYE at Twelve Oaks Mall and bought their Anthology CD, and I was a fan for life.
Finally in 2008, their first 6 albums were reissued on CD and I bought them all, and then a year later their lost "it's personal" album was released on CD for the very first time. I pre-ordered it immediately upon hearing the news.
I also now own the defunct California State University Radio Station KSUL's Vinyl copy of the "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" album

That is correct! All 7 albums, including the non-album B-Sides are available digitally now, including their "Live in New York" (I think it is New York)
However, their demo singles are still missing.
I have some of them, like Cafe' Vienna, but I think those were accidently leaked and never meant for the public.

Deep Purple's lead singer Ian Gillian & his group Gillian did a song called "Runnin', Whiteface, City Boy" (from late 1980 "Glory Road"). Former 96 WHNN in Saginaw, MI (when it was a rock station back then) played that song!!!

Thanks. Was a good Ranking. Definitely different than mine, but I can agree on his choices.
I subscribed to him.

Wow. I don't normally like disco, but this is pretty good. I can definitely hear shades of Queen.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.
