It would appear they specialize in smaller markets so I would say yes, they would buy.

They are all in and by far the #1 stations and cluster in Rochester, MN, which is Nielsen Market #222. They also have three translators "right downtown". If I were the other owners, I'd be concerned if they were coming to town.

Sub-100 size markets seem to be Townsquare's specialty. Look no farther than Lansing, Flint and Kalamazoo.

Grand Rapids is either the largest or second largest market by rank where Townsquare owns stations, and that market is barely top 70 by population.

There might even be a Buzzboard alumni there...

Took a picture of that translator tower while in Rochester. One is for KROC 1340, one is for KROC-FM, the TL (TL of former coowned TV station KROC-TV to cover parts of Iowa) of which is way far out and doesn't put a 70 dBu over all of present day Rochester, and another for a "suburban" rimshot, KYBA. They are triplexed into the three bays at the top. The Marti and STL antennas are lower on the tower.

I'm surprised they are not in Ohio, but in other states all around it.

And what do you think WTCM FM/AM is worth at sale with its limited and cheaper ad revenue like all others that are currently operating?
The market, as a whole?

I wouldn't want 580 unless I could also buy 92.9.

At some point, I would migrate 580's format to 92.9 FM and either turn off the 580 transmitter or operate it at greatly reduced power (i.e. apply for a downgrade).

There are lots of older wealthy retiree listeners of 580. I wouldn't touch it for at least 7 years.

This isn't some major market, change is not received well and would have dimishing returns.

Something needs to happen to 92.9, but fm talk has consistently failed.

I wouldn't use 106.7 or tiny 106.3 as the benchmarks for determining FM Talk's viability.

WTCM has superior content and a superior brand.

I am glad to hear 580 remains very viable in an otherwise dead AM market.

Does 1270 draw any meaningful listening in the northern reaches of the market?

They had a sales office in TC a while ago, but I have no idea how they do in the North. In Traverse City they are dead.

WTCM in many ways is stilled viewed as a community asset. Biederman had his hands in every event. That has wained, and no other station has really taken over.

Yes, however the question is:
What are they worth in value, today, in this business climate and market?
“Cool-Aid” aside.
