Channel 7 mornings for the non win

Post by 696lover » Mon May 18, 2020 12:21 pm

I had the experience of watching 7's morning news, this morning, May 18. It was really bad. Not the on air employees, the control room and director were terrible. High school a/v morning news bad. They missed a lot of stuff, constant mistakes.

Does no one care? Management took off for Florida and everyone is goofing off?

I would not be surprised if the new graphics are giving them a learning curve...

Usually, mornings are pretty smooth from a technical standpoint.

Isn't some of WXYZ's technical operations farmed out to Florida?

Graphics hub is in Tampa, the master control hub is in Indy.

It got worse. The new guy, Darnell Cunningham, looks like Urkel, just tried to show video of the dam breaking. On his laptop. And it buffered, to boot. Amateur hour

Cunningham tried to get through a canned story on the shooting of children overnight and did a terrible job stumbling though, again.

Like a lot of you, I have the TV on in the background while I get started on the massive amount of paperwork everyone wants now that everyone with an office job is home.

7's extended morning show was on, I got tied up on something, look up, the religious news and commentary show 700 Club is on.

The problem is the Christian news show coverage of the dams breaking and flooding was more clear, better looking, and informative, in three minutes, than 7's extended coverage was.

When endless numbers of people endlessly donate you can do that...

If CBN offers more in-depth coverage than a heritage big three station like WXYZ, you know something is very wrong.

It's Darren Cunningham he was a pretty good reporter when he worked for WXMI Fox17 with The Problem Solvers and investigating as well.

I have the 20 extended morning news on in the background while getting a head start on the weekly avalanche of work-- since everyone is home and generating more stuff.

It isn't that horrible mostly, Aly Hoxie does a story/ad for some mall jewelry store that was more sad for her and her camera man than it was entertaining and they do some strained banter in their different studios, then the real fun. They run a five minute ad for some face cream. It was so bad, but I couldn't stop watching the train wreck of cheese.

Is it just me, or are the local commercial spots on WXYZ becoming more "homegrown" as their ratings continue to slide?
Face cream. Plexiderm. The sort of ads you don't see on 2 or 4 seem to be becoming more prevalent on 7.
Pretty soon, we'll be seeing Shazam and Oxi Clean being hawked during the evening news.

Even with all the tech issues on channel 7 I still prefer it over Fox 2 and those idiots they call personalities and skip Local 4 they always were terrible. And the women on channel 7 are attractive so much easier to watch.
