Larry Adderley passes away

Post by lidoshuffle » Sun Apr 26, 2020 4:18 pm

Adderley, a long-time broadcaster of Michigan and Detroit sports who went on to become one of the state's biggest golf boosters, died Dec. 20, 2019, after a long battle with dementia. He was 82. (Apparently he was so private there was no obituary, funeral services or announcement of his death till now) I remember him from Channel 7 doing the nightly sports, from Tiger baseball on Pass...RIP sir...

I remember him too.

Sad that we are just now finding out instead of when it happened, but some folks are like that.

Where did you hear about Don Shane, Mr. Transistor? My sister was friends with Don & his wife Mona when they all lived in Chicago, & I joined them for dinner once.

I had heard from a buddy of mine that used to work at XYZ and then Bob Page had tweeted something out a couple days ago about Larry and stating that Don had dementia not sure how far along or anything like that.

Thanks. Very sad news about Don. I remember he got hit hard on the sidelines covering a U-M game. And I’m recalling he may have also gotten hit hard on a Dare Don challenge. I wonder the extent to which this would’ve caused or contributed to his current condition.

I believe it was Chris Speilman who smashed Don Shane in a "Dare Don" challenge, he told Speilman to not let up on him, Chis obliged....lol

Don Shane’s off-screen voice could be heard on the 3rd episode of The Last Dance.

Momo- They talked about Larry's passing on the No Filter Padcast which was put out yesterday. They also discussed how Don Shane is not doing well-- not at all. They said Donny has Parkinson's, Dementia, and they made a comment that he's not married to Mona any longer which was news to me. They also said he's in a facility in California. Very, very sad.

Thanks for that troubling update, Mr. Transistor. I'll listen to the podcast.
